Taking Fallout to the next level

Post » Thu Dec 30, 2010 1:20 am

In my opinion Fallout 3 is the best game. Ever. Sure it had bugs but what other game lets you play for 100s of hours and leaves you feeling that there are still things left to discover and achieve? The immersion required just makes every other game feel like gap filler until the next release from the gods at Bethesda and Obsidian.
The jury is still out but after 25 hours into New Vegas I think it will surpass FO3.
So, how do you improve on this? How could FO4 be possibly better? Here is my recipe that I reckon will win you not game of the year, but game of the decade:

Add one part Borderlands gun play / FPS. Let’s face it; the accuracy and general gun play in FO are not as good as in Borderlands. I want better zooming and the slick controls that made Borderlands so much fun.

Next, add one part environment rendering a la Red Dead Redemption. A pretty boring game overall but the environment was spectacular and incredibly detailed. Imagine the Wasteland with moving clouds, weaving plant life and a general hi-res feel to it. Some of the textures in FO are looking quite dated now compared to other titles.

Finally, pile in the RPG of FO and stir. No one else tells stories and build characters like our friends at Bethesda and Obsidian.

What do you guys think? Best game of all time right here?

Instead of all that just add some cars and a six scene like GTA. Game of the year!!!

Sounds awesome but you gotta realize the time developers need and the costs of doing all that. Not every company has funds backing them to do everything they want and time to do it like Blizzard enteraintment. Plus... with all features like that bundled into 1 game... your looking at a 3 disk install on the 360 HD and a huge file for the PC. Plus the years itle take to make it...

Then throw in some zerglings, SCVs, and high templar and you'd have Game of the Millennium!

Oh and make it so that you can switch between Fallout-style and Civ-style at any second! So if the Legion is doing bad stuff, I'll just crush them with the NCR!

Instead of dreaming just make it happen! Major in creating games and start your own company.. too hard? Take the easy route and strap a bomb to your chest and run into a major gaming company and demand them to make the most epic game ever imaginable or all your nerds will die!!! MWAHAHAHA

Morrowind and oblivion :P

Nice ideas but a game like that would just be to taxing on systems imo, Just have Bethesda and Obsidian make FO4 together. GOTY right there

Why should an unholy blend of Borderlands and Red Dead Redemption need have anything to do with Fallout?
In fact, the Fallout flavor comes off as a simple seasoning in your dreaded recipe

Nahhh... It should be Bethesda, Obsidian, and Bioware.

Bethesda for the funding and oversight
Obsidian for the story and "features"
Bioware for the game development, coding, and contributions to the story.

Agreed about Morrowind - Hmm, not sure about Oblivion - most locations were too similar for my liking.

Well, you can have Bethesda and Obsidian. Bioware are EA - we wouldn't want that anywhere near Fallout hehe

Then add some other full games as mini games and some cop chases and you have a game of the next 10 millenniums!

Dear god that would be absolutely amazing.

Really though, the best improvement that could be made for future installments of the Fallout series is a new engine! And if Fallout 3 was a lesson don't let Bethesda write the story.

I want it NAO!

That would be the ULTIMATE gaming experience! :celebration:

Now how to snatch Bioware out of EA's paws...
