Talking To Animals

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 2:02 am

Ahoy, with the recent release of the Dawnguard DLC I decided to make a personal Husky (different name/location) and was excited to see there is actually a armorless version of the husky in the game code. So I got it all together, hooked the dog up with the pre-exsisting dialogue and let a rip... and wouldnt talk to me.

So I went through re-checked everything, still wouldn't talk. Confused and annoyed I then made a quest with dialogue with no pre-requirements other then it bieng that dog, and still the dog wouldn't say a thing.

Then I noticed that under the Dialogue trees of the pre-exsisting dogs that they didnt have the initial dialogue option.

Is there some special way to force the dogs to talk?

I mean worst comes to worst, I can just change Meeko or Vigilance into a husky and change their name, it is for a personal mod after all. But I prefer to change nothing in the original game when modding so would really like to add a new dog instead.

Any assistance would be most appreciative, thanks.

I don't have Dawnguard, but I do have a mod with dialog for my dog (and fox). Make sure the "Allow PC Dialogue" checkbox is selected in the Race Menu dialog screen. Otherwise, you might be experiencing the new Dialog bug introduced in 1.7.7.0.6: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=1399783

Thanks for the speedy respons, I do apologize, but it appears that I am either dumb or blind, because I cannot for the life of me find the Race Menu dialogue screen. Havent touched the creator since Oblivion and dialogue imparticular has seemed to have changed dramatically for Skyrim so I apologize for my ignorance.

I found it, and it was indeed checked, in fact it is, by default, checked, so it is entirely possible that it is said glitch, oh well.

To test if it is the new dialog bug, go in to your game and try to talk to your dog. If you cannot, then save the game and immediately reload it (no restart required). If it works, then it was the bug. If it doesn't work, then it's something else.

Yup, definitively proven to be the glitch. Fun fact, with no audio file attached the dog automatically barks when given a dialogue option. Which when given the testing dialogue
"Can you speak?"
the response was
"Bark bark" (Subtitled: "No I am a dog")

Good to know I wasn't completely incompetant at the new creator and thanks for the assistance, even if I did just spend 4 hours of my morning finding out it is bugged >.<

I was having this problem the other night with a custom bear race I'm playing with making it a follower. Nothing would happen when I pressed E (press E displays though)

It has allow dialogue checked and is in the correct factions. It never occurred to me it'd be linked to my dodgy dialogue bug lol.

Edit

After thinking about it my issue may not be related. I'll have to test.
