Tank+Healer+DPS=?

The influx to this forum from other mmo's have brought with them their formulaic ideals of how an mmo should be played. I surely hope our devs ignore those people and create the game with many different opportunities as it should be. I hope this will be a game that allows groups of players to play strategically beyond this extremely limiting and primitive model.

So all classes should be good at everything? That my friend, equals DPS. I'd rather have three or four class types that a trinity allows than just one. Guild Wars 2 zerg everything that moves is a classic example of that. Hated it.

What you're asking for is more or less GW2. And I won't come near this game with even an 100 foot pole if it's anything like that.

Strategy and roles over zerging and jack of all trades any day.

The "Holy Trinity" topic is discussed pretty thoroughly here: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1440345-clarification-in-combat-mechanics/

Well to be honest the first 2 are self explanatory but im not even sure what a DPS is. But I still dont think formulaic strategies should be catered to in a game like this.

DPS = Damage Per Second

And what would be your alternative then?

I would totaly agree, in the game I want to be able to play a mage using Assassin that utilizes stealth to gain damage. If we go after a "normal" MMO tri-force it would result in this being very hard and perhaps unviable.

I really hope they ignore the holy tri-force for this game, I really do.

No, he's saying it's limited.

Why can't you have fast light classes that can move around the tanks and take out the healers and other soft targets?
Why can't you have generalists who can tank somewhat well, heal some what well, move around somewhat well, and deal good DPS?
Why can't you have assassins who use stealth at high risk to themselves to take out healer, and even tanks in the blink of an eye?
Why can't you have a support class that's good for keeping assassins and other classes from working around your team and taking out your healers and other criticle players?
Why can't you have an AoE class that tries to push apart your team, so that assassins have openings to slip in and strike?
Why don't monsters use these same abilities on players, forcing them to think much harder then just "Tank draw aggro"?

I'm really not following you but I'll answer in terms of a trinity based game.

You can.
You can.
You can for a healer but take out a tank class in a blink of an eye? Really?
You can.
You can.
Guild Wars 2 tried it and it was a mess.

There are your answers.

Tanks need a predator that they should fear and make them seek the safety of their friends. Why should they be at the top of the food chain? Why should there be a top to the food chain at all? The chain should be a loop, with stickers on it.
