Tell us your favorite shout, and why!

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 10:16 pm

The most beneficial shout I've found so far, and the one that I find fun, is Throw Voice.

Nothing like walking up to a bandit keep, not knowing how many enemies are patrolling the walls or courtyard, shouting at a wall and seeing how many red dots going to check out the sound.

As a stealth character, I find this invaluable to know my enemy's strength and make up.

Aura Whisper, I like to know what I'm facing around the corner.

I found the word wall just aimlessly exploring. AFAIK, it's the only word wall in all of Skyrim that gives you all three words to the shout immediately.

I like Ice Form. As a warrior with heavy armor it can get frustrating trying to get to those pesky magic users. Ice Form allows me to get in nice and cozy with them.

Kyne's Peace is a big favorite because of the bears and sabre cats. I just had an epic battle and used the Ice Breath one and that turned out great. I haven't found enough word walls yet and so my shouts are mostly one/two word shouts. I'm out there looking for more words though and then I'll have more to choose from.

You forgot to mention Throw Voice's hilarious speeches and the short 5 second cooldown :D
"skeever butt! troll bait! ugly!"
Especially to drown out the guard's "i took an arrow to the knee"

Also extremely hilarious when you use it, calling them "skeever butt" and they ask "how did you do that? (since its a shout)"

I like most of them, but if you have all three words, Unrelenting Force is probably the one being the most fun. Throwing bandit chiefs and forsworn briar hearts off high bridges and cliffs is just totally fun.

Fus Ro Dah, no doubt.

It's not only fun, but it also compliments my Nord warrior perfectly. Nothing like drawing my Greatsword and run straight at the enemy while I let out a roaring FUS RO DAH!! That truly makes William Wallace 8 feet tall and shoot lighting bolts from his ass.

I use Aura Whisper more than any but that's only because I think Detect Life svcks in this game (way too high a cost and enemies only visible while it's activated). Storm Call is the pretty fun to use, I cleared Boethia's followers out with one use but it also kills companions which makes it very few uses for me. Ultimately Ice Form is my most useful. Line up large number of difficult enemies, ice form shout, dual-wield power attacks down the line of frozen enemies until they are all dead.

My most used one is definitely unrelenting force. My build is really limited so getting kills with the assistance of gravity is a real help sometimes. Starting to love marked for death though. It's great for bosses, especially liches as unrelenting force is useless against them.

Aura Whisper is super convenient, especially in draugr areas where they like to pretend to sleep. Become Ethereal is awesome for jumping off ridiculous heights as a short cut, and finally Dragonrend for when those pesky buggers decide to chase a courier half way across the map instead of attacking you.

Ice Form or Become Ethereal, for the utility purposes.

Ice Form: Crowd control, battle-changer, get-away device, nonviolent pacification, and a good way to pick enemies off one by one.
Become Ethereal: Unlimited stamina, immunity from falling, unlimited breath, get-away device, sprint-charge out of it to devastate mages, battle-changing against bosses and giants, and has a low cooldown.

I'm more a fan of the 'physical' shouts, like fire/ice breath. They go quite a long way, so they're useful when chasing after deer while hunting.

Storm Call, probably the most dramatic visual and gameplay effects.

Although... no matter how many times I do it, blasting enemies off the side of a mountain with Unrelenting Force never gets old

My favorite is FUU-UUU-UUU when fighting spriggans and bears with a new character.

Seriously though, the coolest would be Fire Breath. It seems to do relatively little damage though, so I probably end up using Slow Time more.

Definitively storm call. I based my character on Thor, so using this shout, just feels so Thorsy.

Still waiting for Dragonrend myself. I'm disappointed when dragons fly around me several times, then fly away.
