Templar vs Sorceress

Post » Thu Nov 21, 2013 12:00 pm

I have a "newbie" question.

Looking at what the Templar can do. as far as damage is concerned, and what the Sorceress can do, as far as damage, what is the best for someone who wants to play as a sorceress??

The Templar can use Aedric Spear and Dawns Wrath, along with Restoring Light. The Restoring Light is the healing part. A Sorceress has Storm Calling, Dark Magic and Daedric Summoning. In other words, as far as damage is concerned, would the Sorceress deal more damage than the Templar??

We have no idea about damage ranges for ANY of the classes at the moment, that question is unanswerable ATM., sorry.

Sorceress will do more damage but the templar has the healing. You cant have both , like super damge for templars and self heals ,there need to be a balance

We dot know that yet, it might seem obvious, but remember the Templar will not be able to both heal AND do Damage at the same time thanks to the limited skill selection.

If i use your logic then Sorcerers should not be able to do much damage either as than can summon pets AND have good CC, having all three would be OP.

Bear in mind that Solar Flare is supposed to boost the damage of the next attack. Sounds like it'd be pretty useful for DPS to me. As has been said so often, the roles aren't cut and dried.

I am guessing from the description of the skills probably don't look at the classes for most of your damage... I would guessing its more the weapons for that. Sorc seems offers more control and Templar seems to offer more support

not really, you are supposed to be able to use both weapons AND class abilities for Damage, it depends on how you want to play. The classes are not really that cut and dry.

Did you just ask that for someone who wants to play a sorceress, would a sorcerer or a templar be better? That's a bit of a redundant question don't you think....

Yeah of course there are damaging abilities from the class skills, but for instance It looks as though someone who wants to be wielding spells as their main damage would have some more damage focused skills from the staff as opposed to the sorc tree.... its just the way i interpret it. I think I will be mainly using my class skills for the utilities they offer not as much for the dps. That of course is only personal preference...

the way i see it the best way to play will be to determine how you want to damage the mobs then pick skills to match it. are you going to cast the spells from a staff? if so then you can really pick any class you want to. i have thought of a few different combos already

So another words, if I play as a sorceress, I can only pick perks from the tree offered for a sorceress?? I thought that I could choose any of them if I wanted, as in Skyrim.

Yes and no. I wanted to know who would be the better at dealing damage. The difference would be between the spells that can be casted would it not??

I am not sure if one can cast spells without the use of a staff.

1. You are locked out of the other classes skill trees and the other races tree, also you have to choose between Vampire or Werewolf

2. Look at tamriel foundry for info about the classes

3. Spells from the class and staffs have nothing to do with each other.

I have to choose between becoming a werewolf or a vampire?? I have the read the Foundry, and it seems that outside of damage, the Templar has healing and the Sorceress has summoning. I was under the impression that if you wanted to be say a warrior, and sneak, that you could.

Werewolf and vampire are mutually exclusive. You can sneak as any of the classes, but only Nightblades have an invisibility spell. And you are correct, Templar has the healing tree and the sorcerer has a Summoning tree, no other class can summon and the templars are the only class that can heal without a restoration staff.

Okay, I get it. So as a sorceress, I can cast spells, summon, sneak, use a bow, use a dagger/sword, the basic type of stuff. But some things are only for a certain class, such as sneaking for Nightblades and conjuration for sorceress.

Dumb question. What do you mean when you say "mutually exclusive??"

Any class can be the traditional warrior, rogue, mage, healer by the combination of weapon and class skills you choose, then you can also be a hybrid of those as well, so you can definitely make a warrior and sneak type class. back to the first quest ion about what would make the best sorcerer... It seems that if you want to use a destruction staff and have the highest DPS from it you should consider a dragon knight, it looks like those skills will be fire focused. Also apparently the fire staff has extra burning damage on top of the initial hit like a DoT afterwards. There are a few factors to consider and i think most people are taking quite a lot of time to weigh up all the options before deciding on a particular class / weapon / armour combo... i know it took me ages, so dont rush into it, keep reading and researching

ALL classes can SNEAK, use any armor, and use any weapons, but all three classes have three skill trees ONLY for them. this includes the possibility to choose the invisibility spell from the single player games and yes, only sorcerers have the ability to use summons.

It means you can only choose one, if you are a vampire you cannot be a werewolf at the same time. It is one or the other.

Nightblade can summon also at what looks like mid levels, sorcerer can summon from the beginning.

Actually, you can. Indeed any class can use a healing staff. You have a limited number of bars and slots and slots used for healing abilities can't be used for other purposes, but your damage abilities don't automatically hit less hard just because you have access to a healing ability or even if you have assigned a slot to one. Balance is largely achieved via opportunity costs. They also need to watch numbers and synergies, of course, but except for the 3 or 4 ability trees (can't recall which) that define a class, you can mix and match as you please.

Okay. This newbie understands now. lol Basiclly one can be what they want to be, but can not always do what they want to do, because some things are strickly for certain classes. Understood.

I has always played as either a sorceress or an archer. I enjoy the magic side better, at least in Skyrim. But I also know that this is not Skyrim and the rules have changed. I believe that when ESO does come out, I will just play, pick my class and race, and all that, and then just go on and see what happens. I can always choose to start over with another character. I hope.

If you really would like to summon a pet to aid you, you will probably like the sorcerer class most as there are 2 normal pets available and also an ultimate skill which essentially means 3 pets available. Remember you can load different skills for 2 separate weapons, so you can have a class that uses the bow and destruction staff and swap between playing like an archer and a sorcerer.

good luck!!

Thanks everyone for putting up with my questions. You people helped a lot. I know that I will have fun, and look forward to "seeing" some of you on the playing field. Thanks again for the answers and for clearing up things for me.

Not... exactly. Anyone can sneak, cast spells, uses bows, daggers, (any type of weapon), or any type of armor. Medium armor passives help sneaking abilities, regardless of class. Nightblades may have a couple abilities that benefit from stealth, and have (at last report) an invisibility spell.

Basically the class only dictates three (of 12) skill lines, and race dictates 1 (of 9) skill lines. Everything else is completely open, but you can't be a werewolf or vampire at the same time. You can also elect not to be a vampire or werewolf at all, and various fighter's guild abilities (mage and fighters guild have their own skill lines for those who join them) apparently hurt vamps and werewolves more.

The Tamriel Foundry has a general list of weapon and class trees up, but they are very much beta and subject to change. When things open up closer to release (particularly if an open beta happens) it will be relatively easy to get a clear picture of what the class abilities are like.

Thank you for the info. Indeed, the Foundry has the best info that I have seen. As said, I will just wait for it to come out and just go for it and see. It will be quite the challenge.
