X3: Terran Conflict

Post » Sat Jun 18, 2011 1:58 am

Hey everyone, I used to play X3 Reunion religiously in the past, and just yesterday I purchased X3 Terran Conflict. I patched it to v3.1 and installed the bonus content.

Anyway, I need some tips on how to start off because I'm a bit lost, it's been a couple of years since I've last touched an egosoft game.

Also, which game mode would you suggest I start with? There are 5 options when you start a new game. I was thinking about choosing the second option, not sure how much of a difference it makes to be honest.

I've tried fooling around for a bit, but I'm still lost.

Thank you.

tl;dr: I just need some tips. I'm also using this baby: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/gaming/joysticks/devices/291

And yes, I got it after you mentioning it yesterday exo.

EDIT: Also, if there are any must have mods tell me about them. I haven't started a new game yet.

Don't start a custom game, it'll only disable story missions. It's a lot easier to make money in TC than it is in Reunion, so if you played Reunion you really shouldn't have much trouble I think

My advice on how to start is to get a decent combat-capable ship to make money in (combat missions pay well and you might capture some ships in the process), then get the cash together to buy some transports as sector traders, and upgrade them to universe traders when possible. This eventually got me the money to start my business empire.
Also, don't rely too much on the Terran economy, as it is likely to collapse before long.

As for the story missions, it might help to do the Terran Conflict story arch fairly early on. You can do it with a decent M3 as long as your combat rank isn't too high, and it'll net you a very good M6.
Personally, I'd also recommend using story walkthroughs to avoid bugs and annoyances, but that's probably just me :P

Terran, like StarCraft?

Sorta.

Terrans are Earth Humans.

Argons are the humans who got seperated from Earth centuries ago.

@tesfanner:

Humble merchant is the best start for a new TC player. it gives you a fighter and freighter. Try trading first for a bit to get some capital, then use the money to trick out your vessels and all that. Eventually, your going to want to head to Omicron Lyrae to start the Terran plot (good rewards [m6, a few rapiers, a transport, and an m8], isn't hard, prequesite for a number of other plots), which only really requires a decent m3 to beat.

As for mods:

The Improved Races mod is really fun. In my current game with it, I've had The split invade boron sectors, pirate sectors falling to the argon, the Yaki invading the Paranid, the Xenon attempting to invade everyone, and the Kha'ak slowly taking over unkown sectors.

Oh, and btw, there's been an x-tended mod released for Terran Conflict. I reccomend playing the vanilla game first before looking at the x-tended mod, since it uses an entirely new map.

I actually bought this game recently and haven't got around to playing it yet. Is it good? I hear it's hard to get into...

The manual is over 100 pages, and with good reason..

I periodically get the urge to continue x3:reunion, but the mere fact that I'd have to relearn all those hotkeys keeps putting me off (for now).
