TESO -v- Project Copernicus

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 10:17 am

First off for those who don't know Project Copernicus is the code name for the MMORPG 38 studio's has been working on for around 5+ years now and it is based on the world of Amalur ( Kingdoms of Amalur ) that has been created for this mmorpg. Kingdoms of Amalur is a openworld single player sandbox type RPG pretty much just like TES games and even led by an old TES lead Developer who worked on MW and OB.

While they are not going to be the same type of Mmorpg in every aspect, they could both be out around the same time ( same year) and will share a lot in common and going by TESO screes and KOA screen they will look similar and they both have singleplayer openworld sandbox-ish counterparts compare that are them selves very similar.

The main things i can see right off that sets the 2 apart is that TESO will focus heavily on pvp while Project Copernicus looks to focus more on pve, and also Project Copernicus will use the same real-time action based combat system that the singleplayer game features where as TESO has opted for Hotbar based action combat rather than the real-time action combat of the single player TES games.

Point of the thread, who else here things we could see a showdown between these 2 new Mmorpg's in 2013 and what might the outcome of that be ?

It's not a showdown when only one shows up with a gun.

Care to go into it a little more ? Who didn't bring the gun and why didn't the fireball work ?

I thought Project Copernicuswas what the MMORPG got butchered in to Kingdoms of Alamur when 38 Studio's realised an MMORPG would have been a failure?

Kingdoms of Amalur ("Project Mercury") is and always was a separate game made by a separate studio.

No PC was the mmorpg they have worked on from the start and is the main focus of the team, KoA is the single player RPG based in the same world to get people interested and familiar with the lore/brand.

Interesting. I was not aware of that.

Both 38 studio's/Bighuge games and always has been. Like i said KoA was a singleplayer open world RPG made to give 38 a fan base and get people interested in the IP, and it worked.

If they are, indeed, similar and come out around the same time, I'll be going with TES:O - my reason: Matt Firor and DAOC. Don't get me wrong, I like Curt Schilling, but he's more of a PVE guy - big roots in EQ and WOW.

Er, how is it wrong? Sure, there's some input and collaboration between teams, but Amalur was developed primarily in BHG (Maryland) while Copernicus is 38 Studios (Rhode Island).

Exactly why i would go for both i am a HUGE EQ fan from day 1 and my wife and i played it for years, but we are also HUGE day one Daoc fans and have actually went back and played both again recently. That's the reason im excited for both and think they are a good match up.

Judging from my own, limited, subjective experience: there's a hell of a lot of pvp focused mmo gamers out there that are tired of instanced pvp that's focused on gear/reward grinds, and are bored of tacked on open-world pvp that has no purpose.

Imo, epic RvR that works in the way that WAR could have done (and never did) could be a real winner...(I hope!).

Curt Schilling stated that PvP might not even make launch. And yes, those two games were developed separately. Once 38 purchased BHG they took the game they were working on as a single player RPG they turned it into an Amalur RPG. But, 38 had always been working on the MMO and only the mmo. I like PvP so Elder Scrolls gets my money over Copernicus.

No matter how you lay it out the single player game and Mmorpg are both set in the same world with the same lore and is very much in the same boat as TESO in terms of going from a single player rpg to a mmorpg. I plan to play both, but im a pve lover as well as pvp, i would have played TES even if it was pve only.

I never said the game wasn't set in the same age. All I was doing was correcting the person who claimed the single player game was the MMO. My only on topic piece was that I can not play an MMO that doesn't have PvP at launch. After you defeat all of the PVE in the game you either make a new character and do it again ( to me that is boring ), or you fight other players. I enjoy PvP because it isn't scripted.

How come something in development so long and kept so secret is so unoriginal?

I was actually excited for Reckoning: KoA before it was launched, then after playing the demo I shunned those thoughts immediately. That bloody camera just went all over the place, it all felt like a Diablo-experiment gone wrong. Now I'm not calling it out, I know many has taken a liking to it (and called the mainstory "better than Skyrims'"), but it just wasn't for me.

So my money's on TES:O.
