Texting etiquette?

Post » Wed Aug 22, 2012 8:06 pm

I have been texting for a while now, but it's not a form of communication that I'm really comfortable with. So I've been wondering lately, are there any rules, etiquette, preconceptions, et cetera that I should be aware of?

There are a few situations that have made me curious lately. However, it's only one of the more recent ones that I'm concerned about right now.
A friend of mine and I exchanged phone numbers last week, and she had mentioned that she sends good morning texts to people every day (between six and six-thirty, and when she doesn't send them, they text her wanting to know what's going on). So now I get them, and at first I responded back, but this morning I didn't. I was going to, then forgot. :hehe:
Since I know that she's sending these to multiple people, am I really required to respond every time?

I'm just trying to make sure that I don't do anything really stupid, even though I know that I will again. :P

best advice I can give is to never text while driving. last year I got rear ended by somebody who was texting while driving (at roughly 40 mph...and $3500 damage to my car) :swear:

Aside from that, the only other thing I can say is to not overdo it. If the person you are texting doesn't respond immediately, there's no reason to continue sending text after text.

 I,... um,... am guilty of that from time to time.... work related though, so it's mostly short, to the point, and done. Even though I know that I shouldn't...........

I'd just tell her "good morning" with a smiley face of your choice, and if she responds back trying to make a conversation, then just go along with it.

Seems like an annoying girl. I would block her texts. I don't like getting texts constantly from people with no real purpose....

I'd respond with a good morning of your own. Don't worry too much about it if you miss one day, though. It's more of a courtesy than a requirement.

It's one text every morning wishing a good morning. And you'd block her.

I have a couple of friends like this, and I don't always reply. Depends on what the message is, really.

...that or she could be secretly texting only you, pretending to text a lot of people, and checking if you like her enough to reply to her messages. :D Yes, I think too much.
