Texture Replacement

Skyrim looks an era better than Oblivion in nearly every way. The style is better, the effects are better, and the environments are jaw-dropping. The textures, however, are actually worse.

I think that just about every texture in Skyrim would benefit from a high-res replacement. The environments, the armor, the weapons, the clothes, the food, everything. Obviously this would take a lot of effort and work by several people. I myself have nothing to offer except starting a discussion on the matter. Various texture replacements are already springing up, some of them quite good, but an organized project would be quite welcome.
So, those of you who know about textures, what should be done and how will you do it?

They are worse in comparison to all of the texture mods for PC but earlier on this year when I reinstalled Oblivion I was appalled at how bad the textures and graphics were. A ton of mods later it looked great again. I'm not sure when texture packs will get released but they will bring my computer to it's knees to replace every texture like I did in oblivion. However both games straight out of the box Skryim kicks Oblivion's textures all over the place. Oblivion had only a handful of higher quality textures the jail cell at the beginning and a few other key areas. Of course Skyrim has some grainy textures I do not care for the underground greenish cave textures and would agree in that one instance Oblivion's in some areas were better.
