Textures stuck on low

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:00 am

Hey,

While I was playing, I noticed horrific lag when I was near about 8 NPCs or so.

I then started playing with the graphical settings to see if I could get better FPS, including playing with the texture quality.
Now, though, my textures seem to be stuck on the lowest and I can't change them back, no matter what I do.

I've tried changing them from the launcher, in-game and I've even completely reinstalled the game and they're still stuck.

I've had a search on Google and on the forums and I can't seem to find anyone else reporting this issue, let alone a fix.

I'm using an ATI 5850 (1GB) with 4GB RAM and an AMD 3GHz tri-core. I was able to play Fallout 3 on ultra high with AA on 4x, AF on max with 1280x1024 resolution and got a solid 60FPS.

Thanks.

I apologize, but bump again.

Is no one else at all having this issue? Or better yet, know a fix?

Try deleting the fallout.ini in the my Documents\My Games\ Fallout NV
Also, the fallout .ini file in the STEAM directory. (or it will replace what you have now in the documents folder)

By default Steam\user data\ (numbered folder)
There will be a numbered folder for each steam game you have. Find the one for New Vegas which should have a Autosave.fos , Quicksave.fos and the Fallout.ini in it.

Delete the .ini file and re-open the launcher.

You will then be prompted to setup the graphics settings, just like the very 1st launch.

Sorry, but the Steam\user data\ (numbered folder) does link to folders that are numbered, but none of them have Autosave.fos, Quicksave.fos or the Fallout.ini in them.

Apologies, should have been a bit more specific.

In the UserDATA folder there should be some numbered folders.

Inside one of them should be more. look for the one that matches the STEAM ID number for fallout New Vegas.

Once you find it, inside it should be a folder called 'remote"
The files should be inside the remote folder.

Sorry, they were the folders i was on about.

In my userDATA foler, there is one numbered folder and more numbered folder in that folder there are many numbered folders.

I checked all of these folders and their remote folders and I still couldn't find them.

It's probably the ATI Catalyst Control causing your problems.. try removing it from your windows startup programs, reboot your PC, then play the game. (if set incorrectly, the Catalyst control will completely [censored] your game graphics)

This actually sorted my issue out. I didn't think it would, but it did.. Aha.

Thanks. Do you have any idea what the benefits are of having CCC running in the background? Or if it's pointlessly using resources. I know it's good for forcing vsync and AA on some games.

first, i'm glad to be of service.

second,
In my personal opinion, CCC is simply there to svck up resources.. I've yet to find a game that benefits from CCC to be honest. I always turn off CCC as soon as i update, which brings me to my next peeve about CCC.. if you install a driver update, it automatically "re-adds" CCC to your startup programs. So keep in mind, every driver update will require you to remove CCC from your windows start-up programs. ^.^

Alright, I'll just keep it off from now on.

Thanks for your help.
