Did Bethesda forget to ship the pc version textures? Not quite what I was expecting for 2011.

Nope, not forgotten:
We're looking into it. Something to clear up is this has nothing to do with whether you install to the hard drive or not.

Nope, not forgotten:
What does that have to do with the PC version? Since when can you play a game on pc and not install it to a hard drive?

I mean, this is what I want to believe. I want to just pretend that the current state of SK's textures is some kind of hilarious mistake that Beth will fix.

Also, is it me, or does everything has a weird glowing-like outline?

The game does look great, the textures fit in really well aesthetically, but when you get close they are VERY low res. It's not a deal breaker, but it's annoying nonetheless.

Yeah on the xbox the shadows are VERY pixelated and there's a glowing outline around everything like Maizel said

Try disabling FXAA and see if that helps.

Nope.. They gave PC players AA 8x, Better resolution, Ultra textures, and what else do you want.. Also you got mods if you would like to count that.. But thats up to the consumers point of view..

OH GOD, I forgot about the shadows too. Can't say they look all that great on PC.

Wait, so i'm supposed to have ultra textures? I have low, mediu, and high, so this could hopefully be some sick joke by Bethesda?

I mentioned that in some of the screenshots I saw earlier today.

Rocks/Boulders especially have a weird outline around them - like they are out of place or something. They don't blend in very well with the ground.

Pete's pre-release hype:

"If you have a high-end PC, it’s gonna melt your face.

^ False

6 gigs: New engine & we’re much better at compression (art/voice/data). It’s huge yet more optimized than we’ve had before. And faster.

^ False in implying that the textures are not low res and that people would not be correct to take the 6gb install size to mean that the textures are not of high fidelity

The UI was designed to make the game more accessible, not for any one console. Works well on PC,

^ False

And from Bethblog:

"We’ve seen plenty of comments relating to the game only requiring six gigs of HDD space. Don’t worry… there’s still a ton of game in there. The total HDD space relates more to the compression opitmizations we’re able to do with The Creation Engine."

^ False. The small total HDD space relates genuinely to the fact that the game uses lower resolution textures even at the highest setting. Bethesda does not simply have amazing compression technology that has achieved this small size, it's very apparent that this small size comes from having lower fidelity textures. I hope they're not intentionally lying to the PC community... but if they aren't, boy are they ever lost in the woods regarding an understanding of where the standard measure lies in PC gaming. This is extremely highlighted by the awful UI for PC. People said it would be horrible before release, and guess what... it actually is horrible. This is a hardcoe console port with a big middle finger given to PC users.
