Topic says it all.

Finished the quests required to gain the Jarl of Riften's trust, and was offered the position of Thane. While I accepted, it was necessary I first purchase a house. So far so good.

The problem is that after purchasing the house and a few decorations for it, there's no option to pursue the position of Thane in the Jarl's dialogue; the quest marker for it, however, is still active.

Out of curiosity I went back to a much older save, ran through the quest again, and after purchasing the house spoke to the Jarl immediately. Oddly enough, I was able to become Thane then.

Is there any incoming fix for this in a patch, or even a console command to solve this issue?

Same problem on PC. Unfortunately, I have progressed too far since this bug happened to reload an old save. Note that this bug also seems to be preventing me from progressing in at least 2 miscellaneous quests requiring me to speak to the Jarl of Riften.

Found a console "fix" for this. USE AT OWN RISK! I can say it will complete the quest and give you the dagger, but I don't know if this will affect anything down the road.
