The Apocalypse has finally happened, now what?

Post » Sun Aug 25, 2013 8:43 pm

As the title says, one thing that makes me curious is, let's say 'The End' has come. Zombies have risen, Asteroids from space are hitting the earth, violent earthquakes, nuclear war. Whatever causes a massive disruption to Earth and nearly decimates the human population has happened or is not far from happening, you're in your car and it's being announced by the DJ or you're on your couch and the channel's interrupted by that bulletin, what will you do?

I dunno about the more environmental ones, but I personally have always feared nuclear war or a zombie apocalypse and always felt I'd try to hang on as much as I could like a rat on a plank of wood in the water, one of those 'something to lose, but not much to live for' scenarios.

How about you? Would you try to survive the apocalypse?

Traditional slow moving zombies or DayZ fast moving zombies? It makes a difference, one wouldn't bother me too much ... other than knowing some of them probably used to be my friends or family members .. the fast moving ones would probably have me too scared to move, at least until hunger forced me too.

Not relevant. You don't want me going down this road, I abhor 'fast zombies'. Fast rabid humans is acceptable ala 28 days, but not the walking dead, they're slower unless recently deceased. But I'm digressing here.

Of course I'd try to survive. It will start as me being your typical moral character, trying to do what's best for everyone, and making sure that everyone is alright. But as time moves on I slowly become more corrupted and cynical by all the [censored] I see, and in the end I've turned into what I feared the most. Then, when no one notices, I abandon them to join some other shady people and start exploiting other's misfortunes in the apocalypse. And then there will come a gloomy evening, when I walk down the abandoned streets, and I look at my reflection in the puddles on the worn asphalt; I can faintly see the last humanity I posses--some obscure signs of Ergin deep inside those hollow eyes. Then I cry and fall down on my knees. And I scream. I scream from the top of my lungs.

Good luck with that. You'd basically be in a melee with hundreds if not thousands of others.

The smarter choice is to find smaller more remote stores.

That's when a horde of zombies attacks and Zombie Sheridan brings you into the fold, munchy style.

It completely depends on what is causing the apocalypse.

If it is traditional zombies.. I am not going to lie I would have alot of fun.

If it is all out nuclear war, the world destroyed to the point that there is no hope of survival, then I guess I would find some place to live out the rest of my life even if it would only be a short amount of time.

An astroid or something from space that just completely screws the world over as in all life gone and I am somehow alive... I would just wait to die.

An all out war, I guess I would pick a side.

I'm not sure what I'd do, I'd just try to make it as best as I can and try to help out those that I care about.

However, I'm not worried about revenants(?sp?)/ undead zombies as that's impossible. Now a radical disease that causes aggressive uncontrollable actions, that's more likely.

I live in the middle of the country, no people within a fairly large radius (a couple of kilometres) so I would probably set about reinforcing the school next door, set up beds on the walkway rooves (assuming these zombies can't climb), and drive around to get all of the people in the area to hold up at the school (moving the supplies from the local store to the school), anyone who dies would be cremated to prevent them becoming a zombie. There is plenty of farmland around with mostly sugar cane, but there is also a field with lychee trees nearby for food, and a vegetable garden in the school which can be expanded for more food (various fruit trees in the area as well). Given how isolated it is there should be enough time to reinforce the area before any zombies even get there, and houses can be picked apart and the parts used to reinforce the school.

Agreed, even though those aren't really zombies. But that takes us into "what is a zombie" debate.

I read pretty much any book I can get my hands on about zombies, I have a nice collection going as well as zombie movies. I am a fan of classic slow zombies, pretty much what Max Brooks puts into his work, even though he totally sold out and let Hollywood crap all over his work, he still wrote some good books.

One of these days I am going to put together a zombie survival bug out bag.

Well based on everything I have read on zombies, you would die if you eat a zombie. I don't recall any book that has it so people can and live after doing so.

Actually, Max Brooks stated last year the movie had nothing in common with his book. Plus, Paramount and Brad Pitt bought the rights to the cinematic film, so he had no say over the film. It's not his fault it's just some cheesy bad film.

He sold out in that he sold the rights to Brad Pitt in the first place. He was raised in Hollywood and he should have known what that place would have done with his book. Not to mention that he was born into a rich family that surely has all kinds of connections when it comes to making movies. He could have funded a movie himself or found people he knows and trusts that would have asked for his help in the movie to make it.

He didn't even wait for book to be out before he sold the rights to the movie. He should have at least wait and maybe he would have got brighter minds other than Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio bidding for the rights.

He sold out simple as that. The only saving grace is that since the movies has zero in common with the book itself other than the name, maybe another movie or a tv series could be made but with a different name.

He did however at least tell fans of the book that the movie was going to be crap, so that gives him some level of respect. He went from a 10 to about a 2 in my books. All his speeches about zombies and all I can think is "you sold out man!"

I've read the book but I never watched the movie. From what I've seen, the critics didn't seem to think it was that bad. Was it something the fans just hated?

Most of the critics don't know how to read. The hate amongst fans is that it's nothing like the book, it's quintessentially a movie with naught but the the name in common. It went from a mockumentary style story to a fast zombie 'WE GOST TA SAEVE DA FAEMILY AN FIEND A KEWR, JIM!' types of films

The critics don't factor in the book.

For starters. The book is about a guy who worked for the UN who gathered first hand accounts of the World wide Zombie War from survivers around the world ten years after the Zombie War. It had already happened and humanity had to regroup and fight back.

The Movie is about a guy from the UN trying to stop the "Zombie" War Apocalypes from ever happening.

Another key difference is that the "Zombies" in the movie are 28 Days later things but with super roid rage that just bite people and movie on, the people that get bit turn into one of them in seconds. While in the book they are the classic slow mindless zombies and if bit, it can take anywhere from hours to days maybe weeks depending on how bad of a bite before you turn and the zombies will gather to eat you.

The movie and book have only the name in common, that is it.

Most books turned into movies have changes, that is accepted and to be expected. But for the love of God there was nothing in common at all. They are two completely different things, it has to be the worlds worse movie adaptation of a book period.

As for a "Zombie" movie it is total crap, it fails at that as well.
