The 2 barrels in Whiterun are not safe anymore

Post » Sat Dec 29, 2012 7:45 pm

I'm talking about the 2 barrels in front of the Warmaiden's Shop.

Many of my previous characters used these barrels to store stuff at the beginning and also later as it was so handy to have all kind of material related to smithing near the forge.

These barrels were certified safe.

Today I passed more time outside Whiterun for a few quests (I suppose more than 15 days) and when I returned I found only 4 tomatoes in one and nothing in the other. Where is my stuff!!!! :swear:

So, I reloaded an old save, retrieved everything and decided to warn you about placing items in these two containers. They are no more safe :nono:

Nope.

They reset after about 2 weeks of game time.

The 1.8 Patch adjusted this, I think. At least you got your stuff back. I lost about 40 Soul Gems, 12-15 potions of the varied Blacksmithing potion types, a set of Shrouded Armor, 5-6 really good (for a beginning character at least) enchanted weapons, and a ton of other stuff.

I was a bit upset when I discovered this.

Now one of the first things all of my characters do is to get either Breezehome in Whiterun, or Honeyside in Riften. Not having my stuff wiped out again... :stare:

I explained it in my RP that the Thieves guild hit those barrels, thus I'm S.o.L. since I didn't have a recent save.

Walk over to Yosolda's and try the small chest outside by the shadowmark. That's not set to respawn.

Those 2 barrels were never safe. They were never certified as safe. If you stayed out of Whiterun for over 10 days, they would reset with the rest of Whiterun.

That said, I still use them in early game until I get my first house. The location is very convenient.

Abacus, if you google a bit now you'll see that, last year, a few sites certified that they were safe. Besides, since my second playthrough I used them without any problems. But now: Never again :nope:

If you look at UESP, there is a discussion topic about how those two barrels are not safe. It's dated December 30, 2011.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim_talk:Containers

If you look at the article history, you can see that it was known very early that Barrels are not safe. Looking at the Creation Kit also makes it clear.

I do not doubt that you have read from some place that those two barrels are safe. It was a common misconception. All those sites were just spreading misinformation. Do not believe everything you read from some random place.

Please tell us where you saw this certification if you can locate it. It would be interesting to see.
