The Battle of Karthspire Camp

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 8:20 pm

Let me preface this diatribe by first saying that I have been among those who have condemned this game because of Bethesda's ineptness on the PC UI. But I just fought a battle that was worth $60 by itself.

I first discovered Karthspire camp by accident from the hillside above. I lost Lydia for a while and happened to wonder upon Karthspire camp from the hill above. In other words, I showed up at the back end of the camp by accident. I'm playing a level 12 Mage for the first time for me. By first time I mean I usually play a Ranger type character and rely on sneak and long range battle so this is a new and challenging experience. I killed the Hargreave(SP?) by abusing the AI in the first battle . Then I died 3 times trying to take the Forsworn camp that was built over the river. Lydia showed up on about my fourth save and helped me finish off the camp. Toughest Foresworn camp I've ever encountered.

We left the camp and headed for the bridge that was the conventional access to the area after defeating them all and all hell broke loose. I 've played 3 characters so far to at least level 30 and I have yet to encounter a generic (fire) dragon like this one. I hid and healed but this SOB was incredibly relentless and worse than any blood dragon or better. It was a scripted dragon spawn and this SOB killed me four times before I figured out how the DEVS planned on how this encounter would transpire.

I was supposed to show up by road and trigger the dragon on the way in across the bridge and fight him along with the forsaken camp. I went back to an earlier save and after being killed by the forsworn mob and the dragon 3 or four times I went up to the Dragon mound I found nearby and he crash landed after fighting the forsworn camp. By crash landed, I mean he cut a trench 100 yds long and then turned to fight me from top of the mound. I know it was scripted because trench he cut when he landed actually plowed into the earth and left a gravel colored trench. This happened twice before I knew where I needed to be. He was at half life by the Forsworn damage and I finished him off with a double fisted, enhanced, ice spike and collected his soul. Overall I died 11 times after happening upon the Forsworn camp for the first time, but kept reloading and trying again and finally persevered.

This took about 2 hours and between the Forsworn and the dragon I have never enjoyed a battle as much as this one in any TESS game. Kudos Bethesda that was epic.

Found this one... I am at level 25 and find this camp incredible to deal with. Give me two dragons at once, my character is fine with it ;) But this camp... From a distance, I die easily. In combat up close, it's the same. I tried different tactics, but so far I see no other way than Esbern and Delphine doing most of the work. Of course, they can only do the job because they can't die.

I climb up a mountain, use Fus Roh Da from time to time and launch fire balls... But the Foresworn fire massive ice spikes that sometimes let me die in two hits. Very annoying. I am wearing elven armor and have enough potions. I just can't handle it :( I feel bad about not being able to assist Delphine and Esbern. Yeah, I made it into Sky Haven Temple, but it left a bad feeling.

Any advice? What is the best tactic to deal with this camp? And yeah, it is epic!

Karthspire is a double-camp megaplex that I have yet to crack efficiently. Many of the Forsworn here are tough, and I haven't yet identified their resistances and weaknesses. I've cast Harmony and had almost everyone attack me regardless. Mayhem works better, and any attempts at using Blizzard and Firestorm have ended badly -- for me.

Good to see I am not the only one ;) And where I said incredible I meant incredibly difficult actually.

The whole lot of forsworn aren't that difficult actually, it's the ice mage on top of the stairs that's actually a real challenge. Simple way to defeat her/him is to FUS RO DAH her of the platform (in my games it was always a her, yours too?)

I usually get three, one at the top of those stairs and two at the top of the podium on the other side. I think all forsworn shaman are women, the only male forsworn spell casters I have ever come across are forsworn briarhearts.

The first time I came across the Karthspire, it was pretty easy for me. I snuck in and used throw voice, and I got some of them to bunch up and I cast frenzy. Then I used The Ritual stone.

Another time, I was wandering around and didn't realize I was at the Karthspire until it was too late. :(

Oh my god. I loved fighting at this camp. In the quest where you travel with the two blades to the cave nearby here i decided I was going to travel with them there to give them some company. Well I guess Esbern is just too damned impressed with the water graphics in this game so he just stood and stared at the river all while Delphine waited for him to go. I gave up on waiting and traveled myself. I arrive and start a huge fight with the Forsworn. We make a mutual temporary alliance to kill the Hagraven and then go straight back to fighting. Then I just realize I'm low on health and out of potions. A Forsworn swings down a sword and I prepared to reload my last save when... An arrow flies through her head! It was Delphine and Esbern. Thank the nine! We fought until a Blood dragon came and unwillingly helped us clear out the Forsworn. We finished him off and walked towards the cave. All the while the Skyrim theme was playing.

I never had much trouble with Karthspire camp to be honest, but I haven't encountered any dragons there yet. Still, I managed to take out every single Forsworn in there without them even knowing it. I managed to Sneak-attack all of them by either stabbing or shooting them, so it went pretty smooth for me :)

My first time there was with my mage, and was accidental and at low level, too. I am not at all ashamed to say I ran like hell.

Went back at level 40; waded right into them, shouting Storm Call, slinging Chain lightning everywhere and laughing maniacally.

Yes... this area's legendary. My current character hasn't gone there yet, but he's saving it (wanna see what it's like at level 50  ) Truly an epic event no matter what, another kudos to Bethesda, a job well-done.
