The "best" games you've played this year?

Post » Tue Nov 12, 2013 12:29 pm

Since there's a "worst" game you've played this year thread, here's a positive one!

Basicly, out of all the games you've played this year... Which was the best, in your opinion. (We all have different opinions)...

As for myself... Personally, Rock Band 3 mainly because I'm a huge music person (Always have music playing unless I'm watching a show) and the game idea is so simple that it's hard to ruin. Plus, even though I have it on the 360, can still get player-made customs into the game for free and allow more 'personal tastes' into it... So, all-in-all it is my most played game cause can't really get bored of it personally.

As for honorable mentions...

Minecraft would be one just cause I have a creative mind and I simply love the freedom of the whole "sandbox"...

And Skyrim. Skyrim is, so far, my favorite Elder Scrolls game and is also the only one I can actually fully enjoy without mods... {Arena I don't enjoy at all due to the limits. Daggerfall is glitchy as heck and required quite a bit of unofficial fixes. Morrowind has a mess of EXTREME annoyances that I HAVE TO MOD just to play the game, let alone enjoy it... Oblivion is just a mess of all sorts of stuff (Mostly crap and comedy)}.

I only played 4 2013 games but I enjoyed them all greatly; Ni no Kuni, Bioshock Infinite, Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut (PS3 version) and Fire Emblem: Awakening.

The two Dishonored DLCs with Daud were pretty great too.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. For games that released this year though, I've played Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Rising, Tomb Raider, BioShock Infinite, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, GTA V, and Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag. I'd say GTA V.

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon. It's the only memorable game I've played all year because it was just such a good parody. Monster Hunter 3 U of course, and Pokemon Y. Star Citizen's Hangar Module even though its a glorified tech demo. Xenonauts which I feel is going to be superior to X-Com Enemy Unknown. That's about it in the entire year worth mentioning. Oh I guess Bioshock Infinite can come too, it was alright. Not a disaster. If I remember anything else or play anything else prior to the end of the year I'll let you know.

Note. I am an avid PC gamer. So the fact that the two most interesting games I played this year are on Nintendo consoles is not lost on me. The fact that there is only one complete PC game on that list from the "AAA" market should be all you need to see, and Xenonauts is in open beta. Then Star Citizen is a tech demo. Yep best stuff I played all year. If next year doesn't pick up I don't want to be associated with being a gamer anymore.

Edit

Oh and GTA 5. Still less memorable than all of the other stuff. Hahaha.

Probably Battlefield 4

It makes me wonder how awesome Battlefront will be.

I never like picking a single favourite of the games I've played this year. But The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess is too awesome for words. :D

Other than that, Pokémon Y would be up there as well.

EDIT:
I'd say I'm creative in Minecraft, but lately it seems the only thing I do is build giant tree forts. :/

I can't believe that Twilight Princess came out 7 years ago, it holds up pretty well.

I have not played a game that came out in 2013. The closest would be Torchlight II which I like a lot.

If we are talking about any games I have played in 2013 then I really do not have a best since those games I really like and are more based on the mood I am in the mood to play.

Best game or the game I have played the most of all time is Diablo II.

I find most of the recent games in the past 10 years not to be that great, there are a few good ones, the problem is finding them.

Skyrim ( takes a lot of my time).

Rail Baron (train sim game)

Empire Builder (train sim game)

Master of Magic

I have recently gotten back into EQ and am having some fun. Don't know how long that will last, though

You'll notice there are not a lot of "released this year" games. I am usually behind the new game curve  Heck, I did not even get Skyrim until January 2012...

Have played Bioshock Infinite, Injustice: Gods Among Us, and GTA V. All of which I've come to enjoy a lot, especially Injustice.

Easily The Last of Us. Best writing I've seen in a game, perhaps the best story IMO, and solid gameplay. GTA V is a pretty close second though.

Of the games I have just played this year for the first time, probably STALKER: SoC (I know I'm way behind on that one). Great atmosphere in that game with some nice shooting mechanics as well.

I may or may not agree with you. Depends on which one. Older ones, definably. The new remake though? That's an insult to the series and I spit at it.

The only Star Wars game I ever cared for and liked was "Battlefront 2".

The only new game I have tried this year that actually came out this year is GTA V but it has been very fun. I also tried Minecraft and Dragon's Dogma and both were really good, I even started playing Minecraft again a few days ago because I got some skin packs for it.

I did also try Dark Souls at the beginning of this year and had hundreds of hours of fun with it, close to a thousand probably. Tried to get back into it though and I seem to be burned out on it lol.

i replayed Skies of Arcadia,

and let me tell you, for a game that turns 13 years old this week, it has aged amazingly well!

The Graphics still feel decent, this is likely because of the Graphical style they chose initialy
Combat is still fun and challenging..
its still a huge game, so if your trying to get all the Discoveries, Bounty's, Treasures, Side Quests, crew members, and optional Ship Battles, it will take you longer than any game on the market today..
and its still a great story with quite a few "surprises" .... *coughramirezcough*

It is by far the best JRPG out there, Ever, of all time!

really wish they would release it on Steam/XBLA/PSN though..
