The Best Idea Ever

In order to fix this problem with quest items in the inventory, the developers need to put a chest in the houses that is for QUEST items only. It would be specifically for putting in and taking out (what else?) QUEST ITEMS. That way they aren't stuck in your inventory, and you always know where to go to find them when you need them.

Just let us drop quest items as we wish, but put a QUEST ITEM tag to them so we can identify them.
Problem solved.

The point of the title was to get it read, lol. I think it worked. :D

In theory, would be easy to do.

Just a script attached to the chest that disables the quest item tag when the chest is activated, allowing you to drop unwanted items in, exiting the chest re-enables the tag for items still in your inventory.

A simple pop-up like

"This is item that is used in a running quest."
"do you really want to store/sell/drop it"
"Yes / No"

would be better but the chest idea is also ok.

I agree with this. Eventually when you get more experienced, you can avoid these problems.

I don't like tags. They get too annoying. A mark here, a mark there... I like just being able to drop the quest item when you're done with the quest as you can with a good number of quest items. Now let's say someone is just dropping a bunch of stuff from their inventory while they're in the middle of a dungeon. They leave the dungeon. Oops dropped a quest item from a quest that was needed without realizing it. Oops, didn't get back to the quest in time. Oops the dungeon has respawned and everything that was dropped in that dungeon has now been deleted. Having a chest to go to would prevent that scenario from happening which is the primary reason for them being stuck in your inventory in the first place.

We have that kind of thing for quest weapons: weapon racks. With my first character it took a while for me to locate Grimsever as a part of the quest because it was all that time hanging on a wall in my Markath home.

I actually did this with the Rusty Mace yesterday. Now I have that and the Mace of Molag Bal.
