The best of Skyrim's music

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 1:05 am

Couldn't see a music thread, so....

Love the soundtrack, and found a two part compilation while browsing the web for the best music Skyrim has to offer.

I don't know about you guys, but I think this is the best soundtrack in the series by far.

I still love the soundtrack to Morrowind the best. It;s posible I think that just for sentimental reasons. Really, any of the soundtracks from the last three games are a good choice, in my opinion. I think they're all wonderful.

definitely sentimental, considering there's only like 3 songs I remember from Morrowind.

I prefer the music in Oblivion, but not by much. Unfortunately, Bethesda forgot to include Auriel's Ascension in the original 360 Oblivion release. Skyrim has great battle music though.

The battle music in Skyrim is crazy good, agreed. Makes bar fights feel like titanic struggles between mass armies.

I've personally only played Oblivion and Skyrim, but I agree that Skyrim's soundtrack is the best of the two. Although I do adore the 'Reign of the Septims' piece - the music you hear in the main menu, and during the opening cutscene :)

Sovngarde theme.
Wind guide you.
Is the road most travelled from MW in Skyrim?
I think it is. I like that one too.

Streets of Whiterun is the best part of Skyrim.

Listen to some Mahler/Brahms work (the symphonies) and you will find who are the main inspirations of Jeremy Soule in this piece of music

However the three soundtracks are all great; and i'm particularly attached to the Morrowind exploration theme that we hear again even in Skyrim.

Edit: i have to add even Elgar and Holst to the "inspirations" above on a second thought

I like Oblivion's soundtrack the best, as of all of them, Oblivion's evokes the strongest sense of nostalgia of them all, thus making the songs more powerful and engaging.

The list of Elder Scrolls Music that i love very much:

Daggerfall - Main Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHSd6RzJyms
This is a remastered version. The original was on MIDI format. Very epic, yet somehow with a tinge of melancholy.
How i'd love for Jeremy Soule to remaster this tune. It'll be so fantastic

Morrowind - Main Theme Nerevar Rising
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DORtFo2MAE0
This is the one that started it all. Even after 10 years it still sounds so good.
I'll never ever forget my first walk from Seyda Neen to Balmora with this one playing in the background. So musically epic it brings tears to my eyes.

Oblivion - Main Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P49m6d2VuFs
The first time i heard it, i was having "Ear-gasms" It sounds so regal, so majestic, so Lord of the Rings~

Skyrim - Main Theme Dragonborn
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-_g8NZr1tA
Absolutely fantastic choir, really brings out a very epic heroic feel. I really appreciate Bethesda for actually inventing a language and use it as lyrics. You can't beat that.
Kudos to you Mr Emil Pagliarulo for doing this monumental task over a weekend's bottle of mead :D
Really felt goosebumps when the main Elder Scrolls theme came on. Woo!!

Skyrim - The Streets of Whiterun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMxt7-QoWf0
First time i heard it was on the promotional video posted by Bethesda. Its so soft, so relaxing, so emotional. Top class.
This is the kind of music i can sit down and meditate peacefully to.

Skyrim - One They Fear
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rPFOYpYdZw
A slight variation of "Dragonborn" but really gets me all fired up and ready for war, especially in a dragonfight. Epic.
Its like they took out the best parts of "Dragonborn" and added a load more doses of EPIC SAUCE
This one has the best Song Name among this list. "ONE THEY FEAR!!!!!"

Skyrim - Sovngarde
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2uyWOlKGcM
This one i like the most. (The original Morrowind Nerevar Rising comes very close 2nd place.)
I don't know how to really describe it. First time i heard it, i totally stopped what i was doing and closed my eyes.
The PERFECT music to describe a Nordic Heaven. 2011 BEST End Boss Encounter Music EVER
Good lord this is the sort of music i want played on my funeral!!

I LOVE YOU JEREMY SOULE!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE TRULY THE JOHN WILLIAMS OF GAME SOUNDTRACKS!!!!!!!!

If there's one thing I've always loved about TES, it's the soundtrack. Right from Arena to Skyrim. Each game features music so beautiful that you will always find time to admire it.

Same person who made the Skyrim top 20 also made an Oblivion top 10. I love how Soule reuses themes to such great effect
