The Brotherhood is not so friendly

Post » Thu Jan 13, 2011 6:18 am

I went into the Hidden Valley bunker a while ago, they fitted me with the slave collar and set me loose. I then went to the Ranger and he removed it. Brotherhood, unfriendly as they are, decided to attack me with no less than 4 (four!) heavily armed guards so they left me no choice but to defend myself and kill them all.

Now, I want Veronica as a companion but she leaves as soon as I recruit her. My BoS reputation is too low to have her as a companion so I'm looking for ways to go from 'Vilified' to 'Merciful Thug', to 'Soft-Hearted Devil', to 'Wild Child', just so they won't attack me on sight.

I thought I was clever by entering the bunker with a Brotherhood Power Armor equipped but they saw through that pretty fast. I was hoping to enter the bunker with the armor so I could do some quests for people and raise my rep.

I really have no clue what to do to raise my reputation with the BoS. Are there any BoS people outside the bunker that I can help or something?

Any tips would be very, very welcome.

There are a few Brotherhood scouts outside of the bunker.
But I'm not sure if they're there until you reach that quest for the Elder.

you weren't supposed to take off the collar, you were supposed to get rid of the ranger with your speech skills and go back inside to complete the quest. By removing the collar you violated the rules of your misson.

Yes I know that but the character I play as isn't really the type to accept having an explosive collar around his neck.
I don't want to continue the mission, I just want my rep to go up so I can recruit Veronica. And then at the end of Veronica's quest I'll wipe them out anyway and we'll live happily ever after.

If I can get my reputation up, that is..

Break his radio when he's not there.
And to the OP, there is no way to raise your rep with the BoS outside of the bunker, that I know of.

I did the same thing, warning the ranger and getting him to remove the collar, we killed the hit squad and then the ranger thanked me and ran off. Although once you get the collar removed by the ranger it appears you cannot do any of the bos quests at all even if they allow you back into the bunker.

My meeting with the bos was while doing Ed-e's questline before I'd been to the Strip and met Yes man, Benny and all the other major faction npc's. I'm wondering if the timing of initial meeting with the bos was why they tolerated me back in the bunker while hated and why I was able to recruit Veronica. Also I never picked the lock but got the key from one of the hit squad. I managed to recruit Veronica and do her quest while I was hated with the bos. It was pretty entertaining having the generic bos wanting to shoot me and the other named bos being nice while I was there with Veronica.

I did restart this game because it was just an experiment to see how far I could push the bos before they started shooting me on sight. I am going to give it a try for real with my next character who sides with Mr House, making sure though I run into them through Ede-s quest before I go to the Strip. I think once I've completed Veronicas quest she wont be any the wiser what happens to the bos.

Bad news... that ending can't work. If at any time you hurt, or move against the BoS Veronica goes all emo on you, and says you have declared war on her.

I never understood this :sadvaultboy: .

I got collared on the first playthrough as well. I was still pretty pissed about all the BOS butt kissing from fallout 3 and now in New vegas these tech junkies throw a slave collar around my neck and make me murder someone! That's when I decide to infiltrate their organization and destroy it from the inside.

2nd playthrough I was with veronica and was quite surprised how different the tune was during the first meeting. Gotta love fallout. :fallout:

so if a random person came up to your bunker when you dont have many troops while your ememy controls the area near you you wouldnt throw a collar?

If you don't want to deal with the collar and the ranger (whom you could use speech to convince him to leave) try recruiting Veronica before you go into the bunker, and get her to open the door for you, pretty easy.

So what if you don't want this Veronica hanging around in the first place. This thread mentions here several times I know, I have only played half way through this game and discovered the BOS underground bunker while exploring. Seems to me one can't destroy the BOS without some MoFo weapon... damm! those arrogant Sh...s!

Well from their point of view, of course it makes sense.

From my characters point of view, he basically just became a slave.

I visited two of the other bunkers (purely by chance) before going to the BoS bunker and accepting the mission to move the Ranger on. I found the Ranger's bunker, but not the Ranger - in fact I never spoke to him. I did smash up the radio though and a message came on screen saying I had completed that task. I went back to the BoS and was attacked by the Elder instantly. I re-loaded and this time went to the BoS bunker first. Once again, I didn't see the Ranger but just smashed up the radio. I went back to the BoS and now I'm their best mate. Anybody else had this?

They seem like sensitive types, will they fall out with me if I let the Followers update Ed-E? (I fancy the extra firepower rather than armour).

Any tips on finding the virus in the BoS bunker?

They will not care if you give ED-E to the Followers, although Senior Knight Lorenzo will probably be disappointed that he didn't get a new toy to play with.

As to the virus: if you have a Science skill of 70 or more you can suggest partitioning the virus. What this does is, each time you find a portion of it (you'll know because the comp has a taunt on it instead of random gibberish) you will be given the option to partition it. That will lock down one third of the virus each time you do so, so after three iterations you've found all of it and can report as much to the Scribe. There is apparently a minor glitch (or possibly WAI, it's hard to tell) whereby you can click the 'partition' option three times on the first such comp you find and it captures the whole virus, however as far as I know this is not reliably repeatable.

Grab her, bring her to the bunker, and then immediately dump her back out at the 188. Easily done.

Thanks but I'd rather not piss around with her altogeather. Doing quests on your own makes the game more challenging imo.

1. Convince him to leave. 2. Destroy his radio when he isn't there. 3. Kill him if you can't do 1 or 2.
