I don't want to give anything away, as the whole movie sort of hinges on the second act twist - but there's a very specific reason why all the characters appear to be classic horror movie tropes. I can see where after only ten minutes you might come away with your impression, but I would recommend giving it a second chance.
Myself? I quite liked it. (I'm a pretty loyal Whedonist, though, so I'm certainly very biased in this matter.) Again, not to give anything crucial away, but I thought it was an entertaining movie for playing around with the genre a little bit.
Yeah, if you stopped after 10 minutes, you definitely need to give it another chance. The plot explains why it seems so cliche with all the same tropes. In fact, the plot of Cabin in the Woods makes a statement about why most horror movies are cliche/formulaic/tropes.
The men in the control room are entertaining caricatures of the horror movie business. And a couple of characters in the control room make some good remarks that apply to our culture and the horror genre.
I wouldn't say that it breaks any fourth walls, but it does something similar. I'm not sure how to articulate it though.
