The Cabin in the woods thoughts?

So by now I am guessing a few of you have seen cabin in the woods. What do you think of it? Is it a horror movie or do you see it as a comedy?

It can't be both? I thought it was an amusing tongue-in-cheek commentary on the horror genre itself.

Yeah it can be both I guess however it wasn't very scary at all. I thought it was more amusing than anything.

I think the chick who plays the protagonist is smoking hot. But other than that, I've got no desire to see it.

It was more comedy for me and I enjoyed it somewhat, but it's only worth a "rental" if you know what I mean.

trash, I don't like movies I have to stop after 10 minutes of watching.. usually all modern movies directed by ''nobodies'' and all those that I call Special effect scenes connected together with shallow 'cool' quotes.. full of hot blond clones and muscular guys like cut out from D&G perfume adverts. So boring!
To answer the question, it is tragedy ;)

I kind of like how Cabin in the Woods took those boring tropes and more or less used them to some comedic effect. The movie just seems, to me, to be a commentary on what the horror genre has become: full of the same tropes and formulaic BS.

I don't want to give anything away, as the whole movie sort of hinges on the second act twist - but there's a very specific reason why all the characters appear to be classic horror movie tropes. I can see where after only ten minutes you might come away with your impression, but I would recommend giving it a second chance.

Myself? I quite liked it. (I'm a pretty loyal Whedonist, though, so I'm certainly very biased in this matter.) Again, not to give anything crucial away, but I thought it was an entertaining movie for playing around with the genre a little bit.

Yeah, if you stopped after 10 minutes, you definitely need to give it another chance. The plot explains why it seems so cliche with all the same tropes. In fact, the plot of Cabin in the Woods makes a statement about why most horror movies are cliche/formulaic/tropes.

The men in the control room are entertaining caricatures of the horror movie business. And a couple of characters in the control room make some good remarks that apply to our culture and the horror genre.

I wouldn't say that it breaks any fourth walls, but it does something similar. I'm not sure how to articulate it though.
