(I accede - I'm not being very eloquent here)

The closest would be Measure-Command in powershell or TimeIt in the Windows 2003 Resource Kit (doesn't work on 64-bit windows Vista and up, may not work on 32-bit Windows 7).

There's also cygwin, which includes time, but I don't know how well that'll work (never used it in cygwin).

Looking for some advice on a GPU for my super budget desktop. I have an i3-530, ASRock H55DE3 motherboard, 2X4GB G.Skill DDR3-1600, and a Corsair CX430 V2 PSU. Looking for a GPU around the $100 mark and ideally one that only requires one 6 pin power connector. Currently considering a Radeon 6770 (decently powerful, and definitely shouldn't be too demanding for my PSU), GTX550ti (slightly faster, but a little more expensive), and a Radeon 6850 (much faster, but more expensive and perhaps a stretch with my PSU?). Any advice on these or other graphics card suggestions? Waiting for Nvidia's new lineup or the 7770 to drop in price is always an option too.

Also, this is probably worth mentioning when considering power consumption, I have a Hyper 212 CPU cooler coming and hope to take the i3 over 4 GHz if this CPU has as much potential as most 530's.

Wonder if anyone here can help me. My PC is making rather quiet, and infrequent beeps. I can't honestly tell where the beep is coming from or what is causing it.

My PC is running as expected, and nothing on the motherboard has flagged up any issues so far. I'm about to open the case to see if I can hear more clearly where the noise is coming from but at the moment the source is undetected.

It's nothing performance hindering and I don't assume it to be threatening in the slightest. It's just very irritating. No matter how much noise I make to cover it up, it's just loud enough to get in my head.

Heh, yeah I knew it was my PC and I had thought, taking the GPU out and giving it a dust off had worked, until just now - I can hear it again.

It's more like a buzz than a beep, like a flat, very quiet ringing sound, with rare, infrequent interval. Quite high pitched too.
I tried to record it, but it's hard to hear over the sound of the fans. I'm not doing anything in accordance with them. Nothing changes, and my PC is completely unaffected. It's just my ears that aren't.
My worst fear is that it's just part of the PC working normally, something that with my old PC I wouldn't have heard because of the fans, but that now they are all a lot quieter I can hear it.

I'll get used to it I guess. It's not worth messing around with my computer, if it's performance is unaffected.

This sounds like it might be your GPU's fan, actually. If you can set the fan speed, try decreasing or increasing it manually and observe whether that makes any difference.

Also I have now noticed that when I scroll, like, mid-scroll the noise stops. Which means when I'm scrolling down a page it beeps frantically.
I got a recording of it and will try and upload it asap.

The change at the end to the short, sharp beeps is when I start scrolling with the mouse.

Edit: Another thing that I have noticed is that it only happens in Google Chrome, when scrolling down pages in Internet Explorer as a test, I did not encounter the beeping.

I have an ATI Sapphire 5770, and as far as I'm aware it is already running over-clocked. Could this be the problem?

I'll download that and upload some screenshots tomorrow of my ATI settings etc.

Any of those cards would be fine for you setup. Even with OCing, that PSU will hold up rather well with a Radeon 6850.

Can't really go much wrong with Sapphire...they are still number one for Radeon cards even with XFX's entry into the market over the years with their double lifetime warranty.

If this does fix the problem, just play around with the settings until you have a comfortable fan speed/GPU temperature medium where the buzzing doesn't occur. Ideally, your GPU should be as cool as possible, but anything below 60 Celsius should be okay. You can even run it at 70 or 80 Celsius; I'm personally not comfortable with that temperature, but it shouldn't overly/unnecessarily increase wear and tear.

Strange. They work for me.

I tried really hard to try and hear where the noise was coming from and I found that it was most likely my PSU. So I swapped it around so that the fan wasn't facing the case interior. But the noise remains.

This might make sense since what I've done is upgrade everything in my PC except the PSU and Hard Drive and Graphics card, which I updated last year. It might be a little out of date or it's depth considering the new CPU/motherboard/RAM are a lot more powerful than the last.

Is there anyway I can check the PSU health to see if this is the problem?

I am waiting for two more parts to arrive, before I get my rig build going. I have for years and am currently playing on the 360 and a 720 plasma. The set is old but the picture quality is still just as brilliant and the colors are just as vibrant as the day I bought it. I had entertained the idea of getting a monitor but I would rather play on the TV. The monitor is no longer an option.

I thought of upgrading to a 1080p LED/LCD, but the 720 plasma has a far better and brighter picture. Side by side in the store, a 720 plasma looks better. From my old and failing eyes, anyway.

The whole 60Hz-120Hz-240Hz thing seems that the 60Hz TV used for gaming, does better that the higher Hz. The plasma runs at 600Hz. They have always been high and just now started advertising due to the LCDs boasting 120 and 240. I can't find anything on the effects of PC gaming on a HDTV with the Hz that high, or even if it makes any difference.

Another concern was the response time. The top monitors have 2ms. High end LCD TVs have 5-10ms. The plasma has a blistering response time of 0.001ms.

What I'm saying is...I'm happy with my 720p plasma. But...

Will my PC perform admirably better than my xbox graphics on the same set? I'm not all that crazy about this OMG high res texture bla,bla,bla...I can't tell any difference in it anyway. The latest thing for Skyrim is so small, you have to squint and see a side by side to tell. At least I do anyway. I will be using my PC for other things, and maybe upgrading to another TV in the future, but for now there is no reason to spend that money. I will run the old 720 Plasma till it explodes.

I have read that you can put more work on one over the other at lower res. (CPU / GPU) But I don't understand.
The question is now...will I be getting any bottle necking and stress on my CPU or my GPU? Should I still get fluent FPS rates? Or maybe better FPS at the lower 720 settings? What settings should I be considering?

The specs are an i5 2500K Sandy Bridge and an HD 6870 2G 256-bit. Thinking about the 6950.

You should see decent performance overall. I am not completely sure, but the 6850 should be able to play skyrim at high, which is adequate. I find anything lower makes youur draw distance ridiculously small. you cannot see bushes until they are almost on top of you in most cases.
