The death of a Follower

I've played Skyrim for a very long time (In duration) and I've always had my wonderful burden carrying companion with me (Lydia). In my most recent escapade she happened to be swarmed while I was busy dealing with some troublesome Falmere and I didn't notice till it was too late (One side quest, several waits, a few fast-travels and several hours of sleep spent worrying in-game). Going back through a dank cave I found her beaten and battered. At first I thought I could reload a previous save, but no, it was too long ago. Then I contemplated just using the console commands, but no, I accepted her fate and decided against meddling with powers that are beyond the mortal man.

Then, like any intrepeid explorer, I stripped her weapons and the enchanted ebony armor and walked away but I had a second thought. Lydia would lay naked, in some random cave, forgotten, forever. I immediatly thought that such a loyal servent of the Dragonborn that a death like this wasn't worhy of the women. So I loaded my save and found her dead body again but this time kept her armor equipped this time and slowly dragged her out of the cave to take her home, Whiterun, where she may lay forever; not so forgotten and clothed. Sadly that wasn't the case; her dead body refuses to go through a transition point.

In summery... Is there a way to get her dead body passed the transition point? I tried player.placeatme but it only created a live clone of her. I do not want that Lydia; I want my dead Lydia.
