http://thechive.com/2012/10/09/what-an-astronauts-camera-sees-at-night-video/ of the Earth from space. It really is amazing how much our cities light up the surface of the planet.

Incredible. That is all I can really say about it. The atmosphere is less subtle than I would have thought. It is almost literally a bubble.

Although this video is a bit old, I am left speechless every time I watch it.

Whenever I think of city lights from space, I'm always reminded of the sheer contrast between North Korea and South Korea in that regard.

Reminds me of the northern lights in Skyrim. Breathtakingly brilliant.

How so? All the lights all over the globe? Seeing where the 3rd world countries really are?

I think he means more, the effect of humanity on the planet.

I figured that was self evident in so many other places nowadays, that this would hardly have much impact in that regard. But that is also kind of what I meant by all those lights as well.

That's pretty amazing how you can see just about every single light that is on. There are several oil rigs that just explode in light near New Orleans, so I'm guessing every dot is just some suburb.

I also saw Cincinnati, so yay me! :D

I guess he could also be referring to how unimportant and minuscule we actually are. Sometimes theses videos put things into perspective.

Also true, but that notion is actually a comforting one for me.

He may have thought that it is bad to look at because we don't care about the Earth and do what we want.

So is this thread about the video, or trying to figure out what he meant with his comment?

This is true. I'm seldom embarrassed to tell people where I'm from.

'So, where are you from?'

"I'm ahhh, from ahhh, you know....a place. You wouldn't know it."
