It's going to be the most populated faction by far. Dark Elves and Argonians are basically the most popular races and everyone seems to love Nords because of Skyrim (For some reason).

Ill be an Altmer because we cant help how we are born.
But I wont work towards the goals of my faction, as I will be an agent for the Ebonheart Pact.
Its simply irresistable.

Especially since a lot of lore forumites are going to join up in that faction in order to make MK emperor.

Tam! Rugh!
By our varliance we will rise the Elk to emperor!

It's the single most bizarre alliance I've heard of. Dunmer, Nords and Argonians together? Dafuq?

I doubt anyone would challenge you, how can it be fun joining the faction that will steamroll everyone else? I dont know what faction I'll be rolling yet, but it wont be the most populated one. Reminds me of WAR, Empire was being steamrolled all day erryday.

Hahahaha, really? Awesome.

Can't really miss this chance to see Morrowind during its golden age, and if there is any chance at becoming an Ordinator, you know of all people I have to try.

Well having three factions might help with that some. If one faction has to much power, the other two are much more likely to be cooperative in order to even the odds.

I wrote this to explain the Ebonheart alliance:

Its not impossible.
If the threat is Cyrodiil then it makes geographic sense for one.

The living gods of Morrowind are at full power, or very nearly that, and possibly the neighbouring provinces seek protection from them in the form of an alliance.
I can see Vivec or Almalexia agreeing to that, if they got something in return.
Hlaalu wouldnt mind favourable trade agreements, Dres could get slaves out of it.
Indoril would follow the Triune, Redoran wouldnt care one way or the other and be insular, and Telvanni would be firmly fragmented with an official stance taken by Telvannis but each mage-lord just doing what he himself wants anyway.

In fact, if the Dunmer milk their position as most powerful and umbrella member of this alliance for all they can get, it goes some way to explaining later hostility between the Dunmer and the other two.
--
On the Argonians, the most important factor is the Hist, who by their very nature we cannot understand.
Their machinations are long-term and alien.
It is quite possible that they would hand over territory and Argonian slaves, for all we know an individual Argonian is not that important to the Hist, who have a hivemind themselves, in exchange for protection against a threat.
It is not beyond the realm of possibilities that the Hist already know enough about future events, or are capable of such longterm and intricate machinations that they see this as a temporary setback.
They might already know they get everything back and then some after the events of the Red Year, post Oblivion crisis.

What the Argonians themselves think is I believe largely irrelevant.

Note the Oblivion rumour where many Argonians heeded 'the calling' and returned to Black Marsh.
--

The Nord and Dunmer have worked together before, for instance against Dwemereth, and will do so again, for instance after the fall of Baar Dau.

Definitely have to agree with that, but maybe now I get to slice through legions of Imperial soldiers as a badass War Ordinator! Its not ideal, but its a compromise I'm willing to make.

I think you're mixing things up with Ebonarm. Ebonheart is a castle in Morrowind.

The Lore has been kind of... brutaliste? I mean why haven't we heard anything about Molag Bals attempts to svck Tamriel into Coldharbour before? There is no such thing documented, nothing like that happened during the 2E. Why not pick a real event instead, like the The Akaviri-invasion or something.

And the Saxhleel and the Moriche forming an alliance? Really?

What... you mean like this event?

2E 431
Civil wars and insurrection dissolve the Tamrielic Empire.

This pretty much fits with the time and events described for the setting of this game.

Yeah looks like I am destined for Ebonheart Pact. Nord or Dunmer have always appealed to me though I also like the Bosmer so I could end up with Aldmeri Dominion. Daggerfall Covenant is not even an option and I think will be the least popular faction.

What do you mean? Are you talking about it not being pre-written into history? Its a little over-the-top to expect the developers to be that insightful and write in every scenario the can think of because they might one day turn it into a game.

However, right now it appears that Molag-Bal's intervention in these events is a a secret to everyone, including the Imperials. In any case, I don't really have an issue with them writing in new history, they've done it with every TES game so far.

Yeah, new history, that takes place in the next game. This time they have gone back to the 2E and added stuff that wasn't there. The fact that the whole Molag-Bal incident was a "secret" just seems like a cheap way out.

No.
Its not reasonable to expect writers to have an entire timeline pre-planned and follow it to the letter 20 years down the line.
They picked a time in Tamriel's history that we know next to nothing about and in which their story does not violate established lore.
That we never heard of it before should not be a surprise.
No-one ever talks about the Infernal City in Skyrim, let alone the events of Arena.
This is a trend that we can see with every TES game.

Though they were not set in the past, each game so far as rewritten history to some extent, so this isn't really anything new. I was just giving you an explanation on what may be happening, but its just as possible that Zenimax intends to retcon history, much like all the other TES games have done.
