The Elvis Presley Build

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:13 pm

I'm creating an Elvis RP build, and I'm hoping to get some feedback on perks, skills, and especially appearance. What I have so far:

SKILLS
Guns (because he was in the army)
Barter (because he should be rolling in cash)
Survival (because ELVIS LIVES … and he likes to eat)
Unarmed (because he got big into karate while he was in the army)

TRAITS
Wild Wasteland (because this is for my wacky playthrough)
Good Natured (because I want another trait and why not)

PERKS
Lady Killer (obviously)
Ferocious Loyalty (you know, groupies)
Cowboy (he was in some westerns)
Piercing Strike (karate!)
Super Slam (more karate!)
Toughness (ELVIS LIVES)

Also considering giving him perks that auto-heal him like Rad Child and Solar Powered to explain how he survived his time in space among the aliens. (How else would he have stayed so young all this time if not traveling at relativistic speeds?)

APPEARANCE
Where I'm really having trouble, though, is making a character look like Elvis. I'm not sure how much this has to do with the sliders, though, as I'm so bad at facial recognition skills that I failed a test on it. I know I'm giving him either a pompadour or tunnel snake haircut, but any input anybody can offer would be useful in terms of which preset is closest to Elvis face, and whether certain sliders should be moved in obvious directions. (Overbite or underbite? Pronounced or recessed cheeks? etc.)

And to any who offer their aid: Thank you, thank you very much.

This is hilarious :)

Are you on the PC? If so I have some tips that might make it easier to put his face together.

Sadly, no, on Xbox. Don't have a gaming-capable PC.

Indeed! I considered actually taking the Chemist or Chem Resistant perks, but I decided that as long as I just take a lot of chems, I should be okay. (No disrespect meant to the King; in fact, he openly extolled the virtues of amphetamines during his time in the military.)

Elvis actually has a pretty weird face.. Try building off of the first Caucasian preset for 50's elvis.. Big high forehead, Big jowels, High cheeks.. then everything else needs to be elongated a bit. slightly long chin, thin his face out but not too gaunt. Small mouth, Wide flat bridge to his nose.. push it in a little bit. Big eyes.. a little wide on his head in real life but try pushing them inwards towards the bridge of the nose for the game.. The game makes eyes appear pretty wide anyway... Just play around with that. You won't be able to make an exact likeness but if you get the face shape and nose you've basically got it since you have no ability on the xbox to give him that little sneer Elvis has.

Just for fun, I ticked the "Is Chargen face preset" box on The King in the G.E.C.K. Works like a charm.

For my next playthrough, I'm playing an Elvis impersonator.
... with the Four Eyes trait, so he's really gonna be more of an Elvis Costello impersonator, but whatevs. :P

Thanks all for the replies. My Elvis does not look very much like Elvis, but it will do. I look forward to getting to Freeside so I can clothe him properly.

As a side note, I typically prefer fully voiced RPGs like Mass Effect, but the advantage to the protagonist "speaking" in text is that I get to imagine all the lines being read in an Elvis voice.

That would be pretty cool, having elvis roam around in the wasteland. Not as cool as chuck norris. I made him in F3, it was awesome...

Would he have a ton of speech skill? Talking is sort of like singing, right?

Good question. At first I was going to just pump Barter, take Lady Killer, leave Speech at its default (which is pretty high for a default given that I figured he should have at least 8 Charisma and the Good Natured trait), and pick Speech options even when his score isn't high enough (as the dialog there is sometimes pretty funny). I'll probably raise it eventually, though, specifically so he can pass some of the major speech checks near the end of the game and anger/kill as few people as possible. He is a benevolent King.

I haven't seen a SPECIAL list yet, so here's one -

Strength - 7 (he looks quite tough)
Perception - 4 (too many illegal substances)
Endurance - 7 (looks like he can take a punch)
Charisma - 10 (nuff said)
Intelligence - 5 (not sure)
Agility - 8 (according to the wiki agility 'represents coordination and the ability to move well' - its got to be high after reading this!)
Luck - 9 (has to be high)

And theres definitely a 50s Elvis style 'do to choose from, its possiblity the one the Butch used in F3.

Speaking of the guitar, the New Vegas Samurai (melee) trophy's Vault Boy is holding a machete in one hand and a guitar on the other. I'm not sure if that was for fun or not though, but I've never tried stealing that mans guitar. I may have to use coin's idea sometime.

Yes, excellent call, someone in the roleplaying builds thread suggested I steal the Lonesome Drifter's guitar as well. Haven't gotten that far yet -- just started the character last night, figuring I could choose perks and items as I go based on suggestions in here. :)

My SPECIAL setup is very much like the one suggested above, though that one has a few more points than you're allowed to start with. I basically dropped PE to 1, boosted CH as my highest stat, and spread the extra points around ST, EN, AG, and LK. I think I left IN at the default.

Also, thinking he might need Mysterious Stranger and Miss Fortune perks. You take enough chems, it's kind of inevitable you'd eventually start to see hallucinations of strangely dressed people popping in to murder for you. And after years of Elvis sightings, it's only fair that he gets to see some mysterious figures from time to time as well.

Apologies for bumping my own thread, but I hope I can be forgiven for offering an update and some thoughts on this.

1. Elvis does not look very good in a Space Suit, but it looks great on his companions. I tried him in Grimy Pre-War Businesswear, but he looked a little too much like David Byrne in Stop Making Sense. He looks much better in Kings garb (or even The King's garb) and the Naughty Nightwear. Authority Glasses or Biker Goggles go a long way toward hiding the subpar job I did on his face.

2. I have not used another gun since getting the Mysterious Magnum. It is just too perfect for this character.

3. It is enjoyable to talk to No-Bark, realizing that he would be floored to meet Elvis if only anyone knew who Elvis was.

So you have the Mysterious Magnum - that means you either got that guy's guitar too? Or you let him keep it to perform with..........inquiring minds want to know.

I took it to sit on display in my bedroom. The fella still has a lovely singing voice, I hear, and I bet his new employer can afford to get him a guitar that he won't describe as "This old thing?"

I hope you can actually drop by and watch that show. I haven't tried yet.

From what I've read you've already created your character but there's this great program called FaceGen Modeller that you can download for free. I believe it is a version of this program the Obsidian used for the Facegen, you just need to find a picture of Elvis and upload it to the program. Then you can go to the place with all the sliders and copy it over to the xbox. It has the same options as the in-game facegen and then some IIRC. It won't look exactly like him but it'll be pretty darn close.

P.S. Is telling someone to use a 3rd party program against the rules on this forum? If it is I'll delete this.
