"Player interaction is very important in any MMO. With this in mind, will the players on opposing teams be able to communicate with one another? The WoW method (for example) of limiting communication between teams makes their PvP system feel shallow and artificial."

"Players from each Alliance within Cyrodiil can still use emotes and see the other players doing them for sure. The comprehension of public messages however between players will be blocked between Alliances (it just gets flat out suppressed and enemy Alliances don't see public messages or zone chat from the enemy)."

I was kind of bummed out about this response...

Yes, I get it. It isn't important to communicate with the other alliances. However, I feel like it would be a good thing for pvp if we could on the battle field through a chat system of some sort.

I'll list some examples of a time where communicating with other alliances in cyrodiil could be useful.

- Say one alliance is dominating the battle field, they have most of the keeps and even have crowned an emperor. The other 2 alliances can't even get a grip on the situation. So a few big PvP guilds from both alliances form a temporary treaty (Through Communication) and overcome the power house of the three.

-It would feel a lot more emerging if we could see what the other alliance are saying on a public chat. The trash talk, the negotiations, the bragging, the threats. It would feel a lot more like we are fighting real people than mute NPC's.

Idk.. Maybe this isn't a big deal. I'm just saying, the division between the 3 alliances is already very strong. We can't sell things to each other, we can't visit each others lands without being on a different instance, we can't group up in pve with each other.

I don't think it will hurt the whole "allegiance to your own alliance" idea if we could communicate on the battle field.

Opinions? Ideas? Post them below!

I just don't like how ZOS is making the experience as a race versus race situation; Elder Scrolls' politics have never been that black and white. Quite a shame, I think they've missed something there.

Not to nitpick but wasn't the one of the main plots in the last Elder Scrolls game basically kind of about racial politics?

Found this on Elderscrollsonline.info/pvp

"The game has three playable factions: Aldmeri Dominion, Dafferfall Covenant and Ebonheart Pact. If one faction becomes too powerful representatives of the other two can start working together against it to change the situation."

I understand it can naturally happen. But, it will be MUCH more efficient with communication.

The main story of Morrowind was about Dunmer Way-Of-Live vs Imperial Way-Of-Live, Tribunal Temple vs Imperial Government while you as the player were send there by the Emperor himself to disempower the "false goods" of the Tribunal.

Which in my humble opinion is about "racial politics", too.

The real reason to block chats from other alliances is to avoid taunts/trash talk. This is actually fairly common in such realm vs realm games.

I still don't understand the problem with smack talk about people who are attacking each other. Its almost like there's people who don't want competition PvPing each other or something.

There WILL be complains and disputes arising from trash talk etc and policing it will take resources.

So from ZOS's point of view, the problems and cost outweights whatever benefit cross-alliance chat provides.

Police what, though? That situation polices itself.

"You're stupid, and not very good at this game, novice!"

"Nuh uh." *ATTACK*

"My mistake, chap. I guess you're not quite as bad as I originally anticipated you to be!"

I guarantee 90% of all situations that are reported to gamemasters are between people on the same faction.

The entire world of TES is built around racial politics. It's always been a race vs race vs race environment. Every single race hates the others for one reason or another. The Nords and Altmers are two of the most outspoken.

Nonetheless, I see no reason why there can't be an open world chat function. No matter if I'm a fan of the whole chat thing or not.

I sure some exchanges will go as well as you envision.

But do note that there are others with a lot more colorful language, especially if they just died the third time to the same guy camping up the ramps.

Leaving out communication between factions is a bad decision.

It leaves out so many opportunities.

You can't RP cross fraction. You can't negotiate for war treaties to take down a ruling Emperor. You can't taunt or threaten the enemies. You can't negotiate. You can't lure/trick the enemy alliance into a trap.

Come one Zenimax! I know this is something you could easily add by implementing a "Open" chat of some sort. Even if it is based off of geographical location. (like only nearby enemy factions can see your message)

............................

..............

..

Maybe one day I'm exploring Cyrodiil, I don't feel like fighting anyone. I run into a wood elf. She is also on a solo exploration. Things are a little hostile when we first meet. I type out "I come in peace, just looking for a source of income" She replies "Oh what a relief, I thought surely I would be killed as I am not a good fighter" I reply "would you like to accompany me through these lands? I will try my best to protect you" She blushes, a little shy, but replies "Sure. I'll try to help out too"

Fast forward 3 years... We're freaking MARRIED and have mixed Nordish-wood elf children.. and I'm a FREAKING dad.. with a wife... and kids...

WHY ARE YOU INTERFERING WITH MY LIFE ZENIMAX?

I sure there are. It is just that in some situations, emotions run higher and self-control is more difficult. PVP are one of those situations.

In any case, personally I don't care either way. My post is just my experience and rationalization of the choices that compel the developer's decision. Do feel free to vocalize the importance of cross-alliance communication.

I don't mind either way, although ZOS suggested that whilst in pvp, if one faction was dominating, a strategy could be for the other two factions to team up and take them out, with no cross communication this may be difficult.
