THE... Fallout MOVIE of the YEAR

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 7:36 am

Now, lemme get this started by saying. While this thread isn't dedicated to the whiners and criers here that "constantly" complain that the thread doesn't go in their favor, it will bring on some controversy and that's fine, so crai.

Now, by all means, I've been a fan of the Mad Max movies, the old Kurt Russell Escape From New York movie, A Boy and His Dog and many others relating to the "Fallout Feel," but NONE have even come close to comparing to the 2008 release, Doomsday.

I just finished watching the movie and could relate every single character, every single aspect of the movie to Fallout. There are ruins, there are raiders, there are mohawks, there are biker goggles, there are technology seekers, there are scientists, there are specialists, there are snipers, there are various uses of weapons, there are "armor-clad" warriors, there are cars, there are trains, there are cannibals, there is devastation, there is leather armor, these is technology and ultimaley, the source, the very meaning, as in every Fallout game ever released, there is a way to fix things... A cure. A way to make things... better. Plus! The most bad-ass post-apocalypic car chase scene you have ever seen your entire life...

While the movie doesn't take place after "Nuclear-Bombs" exploded, there is another reason for the end of the world and the survivors in this movie are the most realistic and BEST comparison to the Fallout series I've EVER seen. For those that are confused on what movies might relate to Fallout and want to watch a movie that is absolutely "today" and not the boring 1980s or even 1970s filmography, THIS is the movie for you. If you're a huge fan of the Fallout series, as I am and YOU haven't seen Doomsday.... Go rent/buy. It will place you directly in the seat of the vault dweller if you're one that can look past the aspect that a nuclear war didn't happen but a plague that wiped out the world instead.

Don't worry, the world still looks completely devastated and destroyed, as it should! Caution: The movie isn't for the faint-hearted and it shouldn't matter for Fallout fans anyways! This movie = Fallout 3

*Edit* Ah, as an endnote: For anybody that can give me a more accurate description of a Fallout "Raider" than this movie considering their party in Glasgow, please try.

I'm sorry but no. Doomsday was pretty good and all but it wasn't really great. A Boy and His Dog and Mad Max have it beat by a long shot. Opinions vary though!

They really do man... I'm old enough to say that those movies were bad-ass but young enough to say that Doomsday is better.

What was more Fallout-y, the castles, swords, or the gladiatorial arena fights? That movie was [censored] absurd and a blatant ripoff of Excalibur, Escape from New York, 28 Days Later, Mad Max etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

Aww, it's ok buddy... My father was disturbed when he watched it too. It's realistic so that's why it was better... First of all I can't believe you would try to take my thread or even the movie for that instance and TRY to make it seem that ALL that it's based upon is swords and gladitors. That is 5% of the movie AT MOST. Before you try to post here (With somebody with as many posts as you have I would have figued some common sense) TRY to make SOME sense...

Oh, sorry that you don't have to sit there and watch Mel Gibson wearing gold aviator sunglasses for sixty minutes either...

Sad thing? I believe the first 15 minutes of the first Mad Max was watching Mel Gibson in those [censored] aviators doing absolutely NOTHING. I can see how that makes for a much more exciting movie! Lemme quote VH1: "I LOVE THE 80S!" (In a strange robotic musical hymn)

If you're going to split hairs, I would say the second Mad Max film, The Road Warrior, has more of a Fallout feel than the first...anyways, I'll have to give this Doomsday a shot

Agreed. Another big difference is Doomsday didn't take it self seriously at all, while Fallout 3 unfortunately does. Plus, the movie is much more a reflection of reality than post-apocalyptic, because only Scotland is [censored] up and the rest of the world is fine.

Other than that, I think I agree with your anaylsis, and if Doomsday didn't svck I would recommend it too.

So that means you seriously thought the movie svcked? REALLY? That was probably one of the best movies of 2008 in my opinion...

I am so sorry, but the second I saw the Mad Max comment, I had to say something:

I LOVE the fact that it reminds me of that movie! Seriously, I might possibly be the only female on the planet the LOVES that movie and wishes I could be there (personally, I liked Road Warrior best, but you know how it is) but I love that the game is like that! The Raiders in Fallout are so based on my favorite (and super attractive) men from that movie.

But anyways, that's my two cents :)

teheheheheheh they should've made some sort of dome-like thing just for people like me to giggle and point at.

"Two men in, one man out!"

Or whatever.

But for Doomsday, I am sorry, but I stopped watching it right after the machine shot the rabbit :( Ok, not really, but I do agree that the raiders in Fallout are more like the men in Doomsday than they are in Mad Max. The bastards in Doomsday were so much more cruel.

Anyways, done with my awkwardness.

doomsday kinda svcked (see - unbelievable storyline, poor motivations, unoriginal car chase scene etc, though the first "raider town" had plenty of style - so points for that), sorry to rain on your poor taste parade.

The Road Warrior is without doubt the best post apocalyptic film released so far, though I have high hopes for next years The Road.

also someday Lucifer's Hammer should be turned into a film, as should Swan Song

if you can get over the Extreme cornyness then you MIGHT like this movie. its just a escape rip off. sept the people in there had a virus instead of were in jail. and its still was cornier then escape movies. but the escape movies actually pulled it off.

EXACTLY! The CHARACTERS are what's mainly believeable! This TOPS the escape movies, are you SERIOUS? This is the 2000+ version of Mad Max for all you "haters" out there. I love Mad Max, they will never do another one, EVOLVE with the FILMS.
