I own Skyrim both for both PS3 and PC. I got the PS3 version right at the 11/11/11 midnight launch and played it until the (well-documented) framerate lag got out of control. Then I downloaded the PC version during one of Steam's New Years/Holiday sales, and have been playing that in the meantime. Anyhow, I digress...
When I first started playing the PS3 version, I was absolutely blown away. I'd already seen all the screenshots, all the official (and bootlegged) Quakecon/E3 footage...but nothing could prepare me for actually seeing it first-hand on my own HD television. An hour into the game, I told my wife, "This is really a next-gen game on current-gen systems". For all its faults (including the notorious PS3 issues), the game is really a stunner. The incredible thing about it all is, this game was designed around the abilities of six year-old consoles! While many have criticized Bethesda for exactly that fact, I think it's a real triumph to squeeze so much out of such dated hardware. Which brings me around to the point of this thread: Imagine what Bethesda (and other licensed developers) can do with the Creation Engine once they're no longer tethered by aged hardware?! Imagine Fallout 4 with ultra hi-res textures, running at 60fps, full horizon draw distances and advanced AI and truly organic 'Radiant events'? It boggles the mind.
Any thoughts, ideas would be appreciated!
