This is an interesting article I read this morning.

It illustrates what I have been thinking now for a while, those who know games best are not allowed to make the games that they want. Yes, there is a lot of money at stake in game development and people want their investment protected as much as possible. But, is this fear of making a bad product that won't sell so invasive that we get stuck with sequels, re-hashes, and new versions that are basically the same as the older version. So, we don't see any boundaries being pushed, we don't have that much diversity in gaming, even across genres, and new releases are not that exciting anymore, because I have already played it.
