The geography of where you live and how it effects you

Post » Thu Jul 05, 2012 5:35 am

I live in Florida and the weather is very humid and hot during the summer time. Of course there are tropical storms and hurricanes during this season. Tropical storm Debbie destroyed my families fence that borders the bay as well as our dock.

This was a four day storm that was so merciless that it never let down, except for the occasional break that would allow me to go outside without high powered winds threatening me. But that was only as the last remnants of the storm were letting down. Night and day it relentlessly surged a downpour but finally let up.

It required a four day clean up and now everything is back to normal and I can enjoy the ocean swirling beneath and ahead of me since we fixed my dock. I enjoy the sea and watching the sunset. But I don't like the sticky humidity and bad heat.

So how does your geographical location on this earth effect you? And what do you make of it?

I live in Scotland. There are literally zillions of hills. You'd think this would make me fit and healthy but it hasn't.

Being on an island I realize that quite often I'm forced to utilizing some form or another of boating transportation to get anywhere... bit of a bother that is..

other than that, we can proudly say that we have no climate.. just weather.

Oter people in other parts od the world can walk out the door with some reasonable preconsieved knowledge of what the day will bring weather wise..

..where as we just take the [censored] head on. :mohawk:

Our local fashion would then be a mix of yellow wax coat rain gear, galoshes and speedo's...

Try being in Indiana this year. We have forecasts of up to 104 degrees F this week, and that isn't even the heat index.

Scotland, where the only place you see the sun is through the reflection of the hundreds of raindrops that fall, where the wind is that constant that if I lost weight and held an umbrella I'd be Mary Poppins, where when the sun does shine everyone is 10 times more drunk and violent than usual, where when you escape it all on a clear day on top of a mountain the views and scenery are some of the most epic.

I live in one of the most rainy towns in Sweden, it's extremely humid here during the summers which make it quite unbearable even when it's not particulary hot. I'm looking forward to September :P

You get your rain fom us, and we get it from the French usually, so in essence, you're getting French rain :)

I bet *now* you wish it was September :P

Norway is mountainous, and I live in Bergen, the City of Seven Mountains. We got seven sizable mountains surrounding the city, and a popular daytrip is to walk from one ned to another. That makes about 10-12 hours of walking, depending on your condition.
So I'm quite good at climbing, I've got good stamina and good balance.

This was what you meant right, OP?

Yep, although summer's a bit too warm for my tastes. Love the dry season, though.

Heat from the concrete, and gnats from 3 to 5 PM. Part of the Island I live on doesn't receive much rain either, which is rather aggravating considering the ocean is a fourty minute walk from my house.

I do miss snow quite often, as a couple people on here may be well aware of.

North Carolina is about as mild as you can get, although we've had one hell of a hot summer. Family pets died all over the place a few days ago when we hit 109F, which with humidity was indexed at about 130F.

But that's rare weather indeed. Winter is mild, summer is (mostly) mild, and we usually get a decent bit of rainfall (except for this year).

I much prefer countries on the equator, where your seasons are Dry Season and Rainy Season. Three months of nonstop rain followed by nine months of bone dry zero humidity. :hehe:

Come on, it's not that bad.

Most people don't wear the speedo's anymore...

You paint such a beautiful picture. You should have been a poet. :)
