The God particles.

Post » Thu Jul 05, 2012 3:43 pm

I will try my best not to get religion in this but very recently, scientists had found some particles that practically made the universe. (or atleast helped.) So this means in my opinion that God must exist in some form or another. However, I'm not here to shove religion down to people's throats. This discovery could be the missing reason of how the Universe was created. What do you think on this matter?

You are entirely off-base to even think of religion. It's just a pet name for the Higgs Boson. It doesn't have a thing to do with why the universe was created, just why it is what it is.

I didn't see the thread. Sorry. I was trying not to think of religion. I was simply comparing it to God because the Higgs Boson made the Universe. (And I would call it that but I temporary forgot what it was called for some reason.)

I agree, I got a feeling I may have caused a religious war shortly...

I've been chastising people for complaining that it's called the "god" particle since I figured people were smart enough to realize it was just the equivalent of a pet name and not literally a particle that "God" put there to make the universe, but I guess I was wrong to do so...

Your argument is like saying God started the Big Bang. It certainly isn't impossible by any means and you're entitled to that opinion, but it's no more or less an indication of God than anything else.

I was not saying he started the Big Bang. And what I mean is that there may be a higher supreme being but maybe it's not like what the Bible, Toran, and the Koran claims. (Or maybe it is, the truth is no one will ever know for sure.)

I suggest we close this thread now before some people are hurt in the inevitable explosion.

I'm an atheist and the name doesn't bother me. It's just a name for the particle. Derrrrrrrr

The Higgs Boson didn't make the universe. It lends mass to matter. In other words it didn't create matter but matter can't exist without it (at least that's how I understood it).

Very interesting, but isn't this a bit like agnosticism?

I'll close this because of the overt religious blah blah blah - we ask that you do not discuss religion on this forum. No matter what side of the fence you fall on, somebody else always gets annoyed.
