The hate for the Dawnguard homes...

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 3:25 pm

Yes its sad the only way to justify Castle Volkihar as a legit home is to bring that up. lol

Why is that sad? I loved Deepscorn Hallow :D . It was by far the best DLC for Oblivion IMO.

That may be blasphemy to some, but I hated Shivering Isles.

Deepscorn hollow was awesome, but the fact you got the pure blood salts to cure yourself, was kind of dumb. It just took away the purpose of doing the vampire cure quest.

Haven't used them at all. Not a big fan. I'll stick with the vanilla.

I don't like either one as a home. However, I do like leveling up smithing at Fort Dawn Guard

Why would anyone pick either of these places over solitude or windhelm homes? No mannequins no weapon racks, nothing. No personalization at all. If I had to choose, I'd go with Dawnguard. Even as a vamp, corpses everywhere doesn't really appeal to me. Theres just not enough reward for the vamp side in my op. Bad guys got screwed. Good thing my main guy's not a bad guy.

You actually like the Solitude home? The only reason I ever get that is for Jordis and the unusual gem. Hjerm is nice for displaying things, but it could definitely uses some more rugs. If Breezehome had an enchanting table it would be the hands down winner. Honeyside is convinient to a lot of merchants, but unfortunately there is no smelter in Riften. I have never done anything with the Markarth home. Markarth had never appealed to me, even the beds are made of stone. :P

The problem for me is the vampire castle is just so far away, I know you can hire a boat to the island, but that's 500 gold everytime. You also have to get back.

I'm also still unsure if the castle has save storage, so I don't risk it.

I tend to just carry what I need on my characters now though, my older characters used to lug every piece of loot back to breezehome. Then I'd look in a tiny draw and see 15 ebony battleaxes which remain unused when I deleted the character.

That being said I'd like to have a safe location to store some unique artifacts, I wouldn't sell those. Given my current characters 'evil' nature he couldn't just go to breezehome and store his black soul gems and daedric artifacts, not that he wouldn't relish the fight if caught though.

Castle Volkihar is okay I guess, but I wish there were upgrade options, and we get the Moth Priests room, rather than that tiny little thing.

Yup, big real estate should absolutely be added to Skyrim. The option to spend hundreds of thousands of gold will be a great gold-sink for the game's economy. And the ability to build or improve housing will be something I think many players want.

^ This I agree ^ great idea.

lol, yeah, but that quest was bugged like no other. Pritty much, if you became a vampire and didnt have Deppscorn Hallow, your file was screwed.

I have another thread about this, but it's more focused on fort Dawnguard. Fort Dawnguard was an ultra fail, dont know about the vampire Castle, as I havnt beaten that story line yet.

I hope they put in a new castle thats designed to be a player home, and not just a place for a few shell npc's to chill and add quests to my list. The oblivion plug inns were awsome, something like those.

I want these upgrades for Castle Volkihar

1.) Take away rubble

2.) Rebuild Chapel

3.) Rebuild towers and balcony

4.) Get new carpets

5.) Restore Volkihar Ruins and Undercroft.

6.) Fix the dock that you can't use, it is on the side of the castle.

Do you think they will add more things to the faction homes?

Guys, I read there are some safe containers in Fort Dawnguard, but I don't know where they are. Could you give me their locations, please? I need to store my stuff and I love FD.

I have used all the chests and the two barrells next the the enchanting table to store items, and they have all disapeared over time. I know items will disapear over time in chests you don't own. The Dawnguard Fort is not yours, so if you have good items and want to keep them, don't store them there. Use your purchased homes to keep your inventory safe.

Anyway now I've got free access to the Orcish strongholds, and there's that never respawns. I'll give it a try.

I love Castle Volkihar. I keep my home in Riften because Nocturne loves being that close to his devastated homeland of Morrowind, and it's a great front for his activities. but his main residence is in Castle Volkihar.

I love the corpses, gore, and the lighting fits the "vampire mood" thoroughly.

Castle Volkihar is simply amazing.

The dawnguard fort is better simply because it has a forge, grindstone, workbench, smelter, alchemy and enchanting table all right beside each other. Nowhere else in the game has that. Give me a chest and a bedroll and I'm good to go, oh wait they have that too.

ps there is also a cooking pot

Castle Volkihar has this as well... you just have to take a short hop across a Banquet Hall. But other than the 10 second run, Ft. Dawnguard has nothing that Castle Volkihar doesn't have.

Castle Volkihar is just more... scenic. lol

Basically how I feel. My vampire necro-knight feels right at home. The coffins are nice touch :disguise:

Castle Volkihar has that and even has one more merchant than Fort Dawnguard..lol

Other things castle Volkihar has that makes it better than Fort Dawnguard is..

Coffins that give you magicka resistance when slept in and Blood of the ancients goblet. =P

To each their own though.

Most people just see the dining hall of the Castle Volkihar and assume it svcks.

The Markarth house is the perfect Vampire residence -- no windows, lots of room, a lot of doors that close, lots of floorspace for the price and a great view out the front door. The only thing lacking are extra mannequins. Plus, why don't they put chests in the same room with the enchanting gear and alchemy gear? I'd like to put unenchanted stuff in a place near the workspace.

What I would really like is to be able to take over one of those fabulous redoubts that I've cleared in the Reach, clean it up and build a palace there. Talk about a view!
