Ok so regarding Skyrim this is what I found out - “The player eventually learns that Skyrim's civil war is the last in a sequence of prophetic events foretold by the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls#Elder_Scrolls, which also foretell of the return of Alduin, the Nordic Dragon-god of destruction. Alduin is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophecy to consume the world.”
So does this mean Skyrim is probably the last TES RPG?
I also think that one of the main reasons Bethesda decided on having TESO set a millennium before the events in the series is that they can continue to develop future TES RPG if they can come up with a good story. But at the same time what can they come up with if the civil war is the “last” event foretold by the Scrolls?
I personally find Skyrim to be the best of the series lore wise - rich in setting, architecture, story and over all a close to perfect complete game.
However, I do not have much knowledge regarding the history of MMOs, but I know of only one other major studio that had a successful RPG before they launched their MMO – that being Blizzard. Warcraft was pretty big by the time Warcraft 3 was released. And I personally think Warcraft 3 is to Blizzard as to what Skyrim is to Bethesda. It brought their respective IPs to the main stream, however I am probably guessing TES was already well known before but Skyrim took the series to another level all together.
What I am trying to say is that wouldn't it have been better if they had simply continued the series in their MMO instead of setting it a millennium back? I mean thinking about Star Wars and how things turned out when they decided to create a MMO set thousand years before the movie probably did cost them a bit. Everyone now is well versed with the recent series and are familiar with the evils lurking in Tamriel.
