The Mercy Mod?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 4:43 pm

I guess this has been proposed already, if so, may someone link me to the topic?
If not:
I demand a mod that makes people to actually flee/lay down their weapons when surrendering.
It just happens too often that someone begs me to let him live, and I, in my magnificient benevolence, turn around, just to be attacked from behind.

I would like to see this in Skyrim. I used Vows and Covenants in Oblivion and it worked great, RPed a Paladin of Stendarr.

You demand a mod?

No.

I...how could I dare?

Of course, I kindly ask, nay, beg for a generous modder to grant us the privilege to benefit from his work :blush2:

No.
Request, demand, ask, beg, pretty much the same thing in the end.

It's been really bugging me that I'm basically forced to kill enemies begging for their lives since I know they'll just turn around and attack me anyway. Maybe with this mod, the player could go so far as to potentially get spared enemies as friends or companions? I know that's a stretch, but I also know that it would open up a lot of rping possibilities.

while i know this isn't what you want, i find that mercilessly killing them, and then resurrecting them with dead thrall works wonders to atone :lmao:

yeah, I remember the first bandit I "spared", only, to my surprise, have him run behind me and attack me. Would be nice if a few survivors had the ability to become a companion, too.

Would be a cool idea...

Have them lay down their weapons then interact with them to loot whatever you like from them, then tie their hands and force them to run to the nearest road/village to be escorted by a guard (like the ones you see randomly escorting prisoners on the road) to a prison, then have the public execution mod (reuse the bit at the start of the game) and see them get executed for their crimes if they are bandits, and maybe some burnings if they are witches/daedra worshippers. You could even get paid by the guards for handing them over...

Or force them to run in a certain direction and run them off a cliff or into a bear trap or get killed by animals for the evil players...

Or have your own dungeon somewhere, and put them in there and have torture equipment. Or ransom them off.

Possibilities are endless.

It might just be a matter of resetting the disposition when they're begging for their life. Technically they would behave as if *they* generously spared *your* life when you sheathe your weapons. You then might finish them in a burst of rage for their arrogance ;)

But... they yell "I can′t win!"

I mean why can′t I just loot them and they gtfo?

Oh I know, DO THIS, MODDERS:

I can tie them back-down on my horse and slap it till it runs into the wilderness, as they did in the wild west! It′d totally be worth the 1000G for the horse!

Actually this is what just happened to me with a random(?) Khajiit thief on the way to Riften

Thief: Hand over your gold
PC: Walk away. Now.
Thief: I'm not afraid of you.
PC: I have no time for this

Thief: (cowers) You are not worth it.
PC (sheathes weapons)

Now he stands there completely peaceful, I even stole an amethyst and a couple of lockpicks for the trouble.

I also had...difficulties in placing the final blow on a defeated kneeling enemy's skull, while it was imploring for its life. So here's what I have in mind, as a peaceful solution: I remember there was, in Morrowind (didn't quite see it in Oblivion), the possibility for the player to own a rather big personal estate, more like a country villa, with its own security, services and so on. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a mod to allow you to simply SEND the surrendered enemies to this particular location, to be taken in custody by your steward, who would also assign them tasks, like, for instance, cleaning, cooking, gardening, guarding the perimeter, trading, mining?

Could be cool but that would involve tons of extra work; I think the first step should just be to make them run away and not attack you anymore, which is personally what I'd be looking for.

Actually, that brings up an interesting idea. What if the player could surrender as well and be captured or something? I don't think bandits would have a simple prison system since... Well, they're bandits, but having them act more like highway men or having then ransom the player might be neat, abeit more complicated. Also, what if captured players could be forced to be bandits after surrendering??

I was bothered by this after my first bandit encounter (bastard shot me in the back with an arrow). If they surrender and you show mercy, it should be treated like a brawl victory IMO; you get their loot and they turn passive.

This is possible from what I′ve heard. It′s definately possible with guards, and if other NPC′s kinda like you, you can block and talk and they will stop fighting and start a conversation.

No blocking and talking, just sheathing your weapons. Depending on their disposition, the may stop the fight. That's what I meant with changing their disposition to neutral when they surrender.
