Warzones by itself doesn't break anything that I'm aware of, but it is incredibly resource-intensive. So if you're playing on a dated system, you probably shouldn't use it. However, a foolproof way to test something is always to make a backup of your current save, store it somewhere safe, then install the mod, and try it out. If you don't like / can't handle it, uninstall all traces of the mod and restore your old save.

I enjoyed Warzones but it did start to cause my PC to crash so I uninstalled it. My specs are i7 920 2.67ghz, 6gbz DDR3 1333mhz, EVGA GTX 280. If your PC can handle it I think it does add some fun/crazy/intense battles. In fairness I installed a bunch of mods so I don't think Warzones itself was the straw that broke the camels back but the cumulative effect of all my mods and that one was the easiest one to remove as a quick fix. If/when I get a new graphics card or if I OC my i7 I might give it another shot though.

As the author of WARZONES : CIVIL UNREST, I don't think I'd recommend it for a first playthrough really. I think it's great fun to play, but I also think there's something to be said for the Vanilla experience the first-time. Generally speaking, WZ doesn't conflict with most quests, Civil War or otherwise, so you could do it and not have trouble (just many, many more NPCs to kill). That said, there are some "smaller" mods that might be good for a 1st playthrough, like IMMERSIVE PATROLS or OCCUPY SKYRIM. Bear in mind though, that the more NPCs you add, the more resources you'll use and SKYRIM is a 32-bit game so it won't be able to capitalize on your system resources especially well. Either way, hope you enjoy your gaming.

ive been testing it and it really is a needed mod, but it does indeed tax my system, im using grids 7 and ini tweaks and graphic tweaks, im not willing to compromise my grids settings as going back just is to horrible for me, i read youre whole page and you do recomend not using them settings unless you have a beast, mines allmost a beast but not quite, i have a i5 2400 non k, hd 6950, 8gb ram, ssd, not too bad but getting old now i suppose, anyway i cant use it wich is a shame as the battles between the legion and stormcloaks are the main ones that make it better for me, but still a great mod. oh and by the way it taxed my system using the low settings so yeah im pretty stuffed unless i lower all my graphics wich i just cant do now after using them for so long.

oh and thanks for recomending them other mods, gonna check them out hopefully there less power hungry, im guessing thats why bethesda didnt add stuff like that cuz its to taxing, but skyrim does feel a little too empty sometimes, so gonna check them others out
