The "Is modding dead?!" Panic - Why it's stupid.

Within three months of the creation kit's release, we saw people seriously question the survival of the modding community - even though the creation kit had just come out. Today, not even a year has passed since the release of the creation kit, and we already have two huge quest mods - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/25704, and http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9782. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/25941 already expands on a questline - adding solid new content to the game. A similar mod is in the works for the Companions Guild, and there's a large Hunter's Guild currently in progress. Huge landmass mods are in the works, and this year will likely see at least three huge quest mods come to fruition.

The reality is simple - modders do not get paid to work full time. We have lives of our own, and we do this for fun - to expand on the life of Skyrim. That means we mod on our own terms, with our own conditions, and any advice we get from other people can be discarded without any repercussion - if people don't like it, we can leave the community - modders have done this in the past when they were attacked, and a few spoiled brats cost the entire community some wonderful content.

My point is - be patient. We do this for fun, not to get paid, and modders have plenty of stuff in the works.

Plus, when a new DLC comes out, we like to actually play the game. Don't expect any DLC mods for at least the first two weeks.

You made a thread in order to say that other people's threads are stupid?

I don't think this kind of drama is needed around here...

In the first few months of the creation kit, we had countless threads on the death of modding, and now that some really big content has been released, I think it's worth revisiting the topic. People get impatient, and expect things to be done right away, yet we're not some mystical force - we're just normal people who like modding, and people should be a bit more patient with modders in general. Things don't get done right away, and sometimes the workload of a big project is too much, and it doesn't get done.

I still remember the Oblivion and Morrowind communities, where some veteran modders got fed up with the spoiled attitudes, the rampant criticism by people who expected it to work right away, without any mistakes - and left, taking some potentially huge mods we could have had with them. It's an attitude we really need to discuss, and point out, hopefully changing things in the future.
