The most immersive experience ever

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 1:29 pm

Glad you all enjoy it... i really am... but, selfishly, i am mad....

I can't past the fact that i am forced to play a 90 year old ... this seriously upsets me, kills my enthusiasm, and i can get past character generation until someone makes a realistic mod ..... 90 year olds belong in homes, not on some epic quest...

90 year old? what are you talking about?

I support the need for track ir in this game.. Nvidia did an amazing job with this and their drivers. I have a 30" dell, a 100" 1080p projector and neither come close to playing on the sony HMD. It's the most feeling of immersion. Believe me if you havent tried it with these in 3d don't comment as I promise you will feel silly when you do get to try it.

There is no ghosting or cross fade with these. you have 1 screen per eye. and it runs at .01ms.. when I'm closing 1 eye to fire an arrow its pretty true to life.

Please Bethesda aid Natural point with access to make this work.. this would be the perfect combination.

One of the best threads for HMD owners http://www.avsforum....d.php?t=1371946

Heyas Easty,

nice to see you over here :). I will have to try out this one eye aiming, sounds intruiging. I play without crosshair and that works amazingly well. The stereo 3d indeed allows to judge distances and angles very well.

The AVS forum is a very informative place indeed - many people still waiting there with baited breath till their HMZ-T1 units arrive. Some few though were not as overwhelmed, mainly due to not being able to get rid of the blurriness - properly adjustring the HMZ-T1 to one's head shape requires time and patience. Once you got it worked out, it's a non-issue though. Perhaps some head/eye shapes make this much harder than others.

Never tried track ir so far, but it's really on my to do list now. So one more (obvious) vote for Bethesda supporting it... ah, and for fixing the last few graphical stereo 3d niggles, like water reflection and especially some skybox issues (a great fan made mod helps here already by temporarily removing some of the clouds and stars, but that's not perfect of course).

Sounds absolutely awesome, however even the most uptodate PC today might get a challenge running the game on ultra high(especially with all the graphics mods and improvements to come), when rendering it "twice", and is really the details and resolution as great on those small tiny screens? How can they be?

I'm also afraid of that thing giving me brain cancer or rot my eyes out, ha ha, but it does sound incredible. I might get it.

Due to the relatively low resolution of 1280*720 it runs absolutley smooth on ultra for me (all at the highest, except cpu power drawing shadows "only" on high; I have even via .ini self shadowed trees on, shadows on landscape and 4times Transparency Supersampling on driver level). Always smooth - like never below 30 frames in Riverwood and never below 25 in White Run, most of the time 45+ FPS. Rig is quite good indeed, but not over the top either: single GTX 580, Intel Core I-7 @3,5 GHz, 6 GB Ram, Win Vista64).

It really looks much more detailed than you would expect with res 1280*720. Still you notice that it's not HD, but the power freed by lower resolution can be well spent in high AA (8times right now combined with supersampling AA for transparency), high AF (16times right now) and all other settings to the limit. The combined image is gorgeous - and super fluid.

The weight on the head and the intensity of the scene can get strenous indeed - but brain cancer ;)? Oh well, only the good die young - god forbid I end up as an ugly, 90 year old dark elf, hehe.

@Easty: Seeing you use the HMZ-T1 yourself, I am curious which Field of view (FOV) do you use? I operate at vanilla setting atm, but I have not tinkered with it so far.

Thanks a lot youngneil! Never heard of these until I read your thread and now you just may have cost me $800 bucks lol. Gaming in 2560x1600 on a 30" with everything maxed out is pretty sweet, but.......I am very enticed by these new goggles! I better google some more on the goggles.

The thought of googling the goggles made me giggle :). Oh dear, now that I self reflect my last sentence, perhaps this HMZ-T1 causes brain cancer indeed :). I think testing the HMZ-T1 with Skyrim is a brilliant idea - if it's not to your liking you can either return them (depending on the laws in your country) or sell them with no loss/ even profit (concerning the supply shortage atm). Actually I think you can't go wrong with them right now. Note: I am not paid for advertising anything here, but perhaps I should.. hmmm? Sony? Do you copy?

Anyone can play Skyrim in 3D, first you need to install the drivers from http://www.iz3d.com/

Then you need some red/cyan 3D glasses, you can pick good ones up from Ebay for very little.

Then you play Skyrim in full 3D. You set the convergence/divergence and separation to your particular liking, then you're set.

I haven't tried it with Skyrim yet (3D gaming is generally fun for a while, but you get fed up after a longer while) but I did try it in Fallout 3 with good results.

Thanks a lot for the link, DMarkwick.

This might help to get a first feeling for stereo 3d. But, please, unexperienced or first time users of stereo 3d should not think that the red/cyan experience is anything like using shutter or polarized glasses together with Nvidia 3D Vision (or TriDef drivers or any other full solution). This would be most misleading, as red/cyan is nothing more than a tease with annoying colour anomalies.

And with the HMZ-T1 experience it simply cannot be compared at all - it would be like estimating from an old mid nineties ms-dos based flight simualtor how real fyling actually is.

I am very much looking forward for Batman Arkham City PC release - this should be a festival with the HMZ-T1 indeed. Happy times.

Your welcome :) I had a good experience with it, and will probably try out Skyrim with it.

The above free driver will give a very good experience, although I acknowledge it won't be as great as true 3D full-colour rendering. But with Skyrim's generally greyish tones and the fact that green is the other most dominant ingame colour, I think the red/cyan will give a good initial experience. And the price is right ;)

I am dying to see how these new sony screens feel and look. And to people who think 3d glasses or headmounts look silly, do you wear headphones and think they look better or worse?

That's like comparing headgear to braces.

The look of the HMZ-T1 hasn't bothered me a second. I wear it for myself only, not for its effect on others (like typical clothing). Besides that I actually find it rather cool - it has that 22nd century legion commander style :). Perhaps I should hire as technical engineer in the Star Fleet or the Empire might take me to operate some Death Star laser, hehe...

Well if you think I normally play on a 30 at 2560x1600 = 4 million against 2x 1920x1080 = 4million.. were not far off.

But compare the pixel per inch resolution on that.. 30" diag compared to 2" diag. :)

Does the 1920*1080 resolution cap at 24 fps? I haven't trieds it so far for I like it smoother on average (with 1280*720, teh escond supported stereo 3d mode), but perhaps I will do some experiment... ;).

I set mine at 1080 24hz in the games.. i've not seen any judder.. ive set vsync on as it was tearing a little. but was playing last night for a few hours and it just ran seamless. Everything maxed to the full..

I do have gtx480 sli and a 920 i7 @ 4.2gnz.. :)

Sounds excellent, Easty, thank you for the update. My processor is considerably slower (920 i7 @3,5) and I only got that one single graphic card (though its a rather modern gtx 580). I will report later on how it worked out when going up to 1920*1080.
