Do you think it will be able to get its place as top social network again?

What do you think of the features?

More importantly, will you get one?

Discuss! https://new.myspace.com/play

I don't really like it too much. I've never used Myspace, and I stay away from social network sites.

The design itself isn't too bad though. It's modern, slightly minimalistic and smooth looking. It's also very cliche, so nah.

A lot of people won't even be able to run that smoothly...

I never used Myspace myself either (had one, never used it, I got it right when Facebook took over which I had before MySpace so I was kind of devolving that way ). I personally think it looks very streamlined, minimal, and sleek. Definitely something pretty to be using on a daily basis.

However, I don't think its features will be to die for. It of course allows you to post statuses, photos, add friends, "follow" people, etc. Kind of a mix of Twitter and Facebook. But their main feature is music. Myspace was originally built around music and allowed people to post/record their own, make playlists, follow artists, etc. This is where it doesn't make a lot of sense. Not everyone is so musically inclined so as to be posting their music on a regular basis. And since so many people these days decide that their musical taste is top bar, Myspace will simply devolve into a site for listening to your music -- which iTunes and Google Play already do so quite elegantly. So, I am not sure myself if it will get back on top, or even get close. But basing the entire site around music and fangirling your favorite celebrities doesn't seem like the smartest idea -- that's what they did with the old Myspace and look where they got --. The advertisemant says they are "sticking to their roots" and it's those roots that made the network crumble!

The design is really nice. But it needs to be launched as something new. The majority of people will go "Eww...no" just because it's still called MySpace. You can't get rid of brand recognition easily, good or bad.

This.

Their brand is already known as something crappy and joke-worthy. Their logo especially.

I think the should have rebranded themselves, claiming to be something new so people could build hype for it.

MySpace is still in business? Who knew.

Will I use it?

Considering I absolutely hate Creepboo... er... Facebook book I'd have to say no. No, I'm not going to use MySpace either.

Well, it's using Vimeo to promote itself, which is already a big :yuck:

Looks like yet more bloated trendy UI design. Huge text size, images and icons all waste space. Semi-transparent overlays, sidebars, and popups obscure everything. Videos, animations, all sorts of loud clutter. Horizontal scrolling, ugh why? Same aesthetics as fast food websites. You need a BA in web design to find their menus. What happened to making sites user friendly?

i only used myspace in the past to get my music out there but anti-social social sites are the most ironically moronic thing yet. i know theres some irony posting this on a forum but i'm not here to make friends and "like" anyone :P

Ya, I find I like forums a lot more than social sites. There's just this weird pressure to conform and go with the flow, or otherwise face being ostracized, that I really don't like about social sites. For some reason, the problem's much alleviated on forums.

I'm always going to have a positive bias towards Myspace because it kick started my career about 5 years ahead of where it should be. That being said, Myspace went under a massive design overhaul a few years ago, and played the "Myspace is back" card. They're obviously doing this because their brand repositioning completely failed.

Their USP has always been music, so it would make sense for them to try to revive themselves with the help of Justin Timberlake. I think its bound to fail for a third time.

The only way Myspace has any chance of saving the brand is if they address the issue that saying you have a Myspace account is basically marking your grave. (from a social standpoint)

MySpace still exists?! Hah. I remember when it was the latest and new trendy thing. Man, I'm old, anyway, I'll just keep sticking with Facebook. I used to use MySpace when I was younger, I really only used it for RPing, oddly.
