The odd world of sneaking...

Appearntly the forsworn looters can't find me, yet acknowledge my presence when I loot my arrow that magically deflected off of him with a, "you found that laying around? Good find!" then went back to looking for me.

Shopkeepers greet me and offer their spiels, even saying such amusing things as, "Feel free to look around," when I sneak in unseen to steal things or do a Thieves Guild "job". They will not begin doing that follow you around until line of sight is re-established thing until after the first time they detect you. So if you manage to enter in sneak and stay no eye, they stay in place or move around by their normal scripted random behaviour. It's kind of funny that they talk to you like your a customer when they actually don't even know you're there.

Agreed. How hard would it have been to configure the game's AI to make homeowners and shopkeepers react with suspicion to anyone in sneak mode? I find it very easy to grind by sneaking behind the guard in Riften: one night of sneaky-peeky can boost Sneak by quite a bit.

The graphics are beautiful, and the game engine handles them well. But smarter adversaries would have been nice.

This has been going on since Morrowind. There were Ascended Sleepers you could talk to and one would even repair your stuff for you before it went aggressive. What happens is you trigger the NPC before the AI tells the NPC to go into Combat Mode (or any other mode that makes more sense to the situation).

So, if you are quick enough, or fortunate enough, upon entering a cell, you can get weird reactions from the NPCs.

Don't worry, they almost always figure out the proper reaction/script at some point.

I love it when an aggro target finds a dead body, searches for a few seconds and then goes back to normal life like nothing ever happened. Hello? Dead body with a sliced throat laying here? It wasn't exactly random.

You clearly don't read much Skyrim medical reports.

You are 22 times more likely to die from your jugular falling out randomly than being packed off to Masser by a giant.

It's the skyrim equivalent to a heart attack. Could happen to anyone.

This movie is relevant to your interests. And 100% true. Nothing like having someone with an arrow sticking out of their eye, mouth, or forehead say "must've just been my imagination." At one point, I managed to shoot someone (by accident) perfectly in the temple so that the arrowhead was sticking out the other temple. They got up, grumbled, looked around, then went back to work - with the arrow still perforating their brain temple to temple like one of those goofy gag hats.

Personally, I like taking someone out with an arrow, then hearing other bandits say "I was sure I heard something" or "must have been the wind."

I once had a pleasant conversation with a bandit upon entering some fort or something. He was sitting down and sipping his drink from a mug. I had my swords out and everything and he was staring at me as if I was the weird one.

So we sat down and had a couple of drinks.

Same thing happened with a thief once. I was on the road and she was in the process of being mauled by a bear. I swiftly rescued her and she went on her merry way. Though somewhere along the line she realized she had forgotten something and immediately ran back, demanding me for money. I actually felt rather sad putting her down, I mean... I gave her another shot at life by saving her from the bear. Zero gratitude? Really?
