The old headless horseman issue - again, but......who is he?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 6:20 pm

He rides like a bat outta hell from Rorikstead on the road to Whiterun - soooooo is he - wait for it----- 'Ragnar the Red'

Thats my guess, but i'm sure others have already got there first-ha!

I saw him on the road out of Solitude heading south and the song doesn't mention that, but he does still go through Rorikstead. Anyway that's probably the best guess.

Are there any of you guys who have seen him running on foot?
I have, and it was a hilarious sight. It was the first time I saw him, riding on his horse on the roads over Dragon Bridge. Suddenly, a dragon flies over the sky and chases after him.
Thinking I could get another dragonsoul, I ran after the dragon. When we came down to Dragon Bridge I saw the headless rider again, but this time, he was running. His ghostly steed was galloping in front of him, with him after it, and then came the dragon.
I had to pause the game and laugh, as it was so rediculous to see the mysterious rider run for his life after his steed.

Ragnar the red sounds good to me. He's only rode past me in on place though, over and over again. When I'm coming from The Rift along that back winding road towards Helgen. In the windy part of the pass. I know where he goes but its odd to me that he only shows up there.

Saw him a couple nights ago for the first time. I thought he was going to attack because he jumped off his horse, but then he immediately jumped back on and rode away. I followed for a while but I wasn't fast enough.

If you follow him, he'll lead you to some treasure.

It's just a fun thing Bethesda added to the game after they finished the main part's of Skyrim.

I have seen him once ( and was thrilled ) followed him from near helgen all the way to his final stop, rather disapointed as it was an area I had already explored and his horse got stuck on a bridge half way through the journey. Cool easter egg though since i've only seen him once, i've had more dragons land in riften than I have seen a headless horseman :)

I see him every now and then. I suppose you just need to frequent his usual route(s).

I heard that you can get him to say some lines, but whenever I try to click on him, he just rides past me.

When I'm in a hurry to get somewhere. But not always. Mostly when my inventory is nearly full and I need to get to my house / or the nearest buisness I've invested in.

If I'm not mistaken, he spawns in one of several locations, but he always travels to the same spot. And it's only at night. So if you're not in the right place at night, it's very easy to rarely, or never, see him.

If you follow the headless horseman, he'll lead you to Hamvir's Rest, which suggests that he is the ghost of Hamvir. This is supported by the ghostly two-handed axe on his back, whose corporial counterpart is also found at Hamvir's Rest.

The theory that it could also be the ghost of Ragnar the Red is also credible, given that one of his major routes goes through Rorikstead past Whiterun.

EDIT: He can also be found at Hamvir's Rest during the day, further supporting the theory that it is the ghost of Hamvir

Only ever seen him once I think, it was a dark night, I was alone and feared for my life. Interesting east egg to add into the game.
