The "Old Orc"

Post » Wed Aug 08, 2012 4:48 am

I met an orc, simply named "Old Orc" on my way to Ivarsteard. He was speaking of death and wanted to die, and after some conversation my character asked him if he wanted to give him a good death. We fought, but he yielded so I sheathed my weapon. But he started trash-talking me so I delivered a killing blow.

Malacath never came... but was he suppose to appear? I thought I gave the Old Orc a nice fight and a good death. I put him the river and let him flow downstream. He washed up on shore a little ways down, but I took him to a waterfall and let him go and now I don't know where his body went.

Is this part of a bigger quest or did I do something wrong?

You did the quest just right. Malacath won't come, if anything, the Orc will come to him seeing as he is a Daedric Prince.

It's just a random encounter. It's not part of any quest.

@Commandant: Thanks. Makes me mad when I don't do things right and then miss out (like when NPCs die in dragon attacks).

@Xurts: I liked it, wish it was part of a bigger quest.

It's part of the main quest.

Shame on you for killing an essential NPC.

Spoiler
I just slit his throat when I met him, after a short chatting. To this day, I don't know if I gave him a good death or not

He is a tough one to kill if you do kill him. I remember trying to at low levels.

You'll like it less when you meet the Old Orc again. And again. Repeatable random quests ftw.

He is, isn't he? Reminds me of Umbra. They both smashed me.

I always give him a great battle and leave his body alone. If the battle took place on the road, I'll drag him off into the grass...

I'm guessing that you wouldn't resurrect him as a dead thrall either, or trap his soul, preventing him from meeting with Malacath?

I have the better males mod installed, among others, and it's funny how young and healthy the "old orc" looks now :)

Well he isn't exactly old and weak, he's still in good shape and in the prime of his years. Orcs generally want to die while they are strong, loathing growing old and weak.

I always loot or look over everyone. Fortunately if you don't loot him, you will not miss anything.

I handle him according to my current character. and the current mood they are in. Some let him be, some hit and run, some kill him swiftly, some poison him to watch him die and some wound him badly just to leave him.

True, but he looked older when I played on my 360. I have since seen the light and switched to PC though.

I have stopped granting the Old Orc's their wish.

I let them hobble around with their crippled old bodies until they keel over from natural causes.

I liked the guy, and hated killing him.

But it'd be considered mean to him if you DIDN'T kill him.

I've only met him twice. The first time as a Nord I dueled him fairly and piling a group of logs around his corpse like a pyre.

2nd time was when I was running from a dragon in beast form, he attacked me so I killed him. Only later investigations showed he was the 'old orc'.
