Am I the only one having a hard time finding my way?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 1:20 am

I'm having such a hard time finding my way around, It's taken me nearly an hour to try and walk to a destination called Morthal, from the other side of this huge mountain. I have no idea how to get there, and the maps really arent much help in this game... any suggestions?

I just feel like the maps are absolutely useless. They could at least have major roads outlined on them...

I like exploring and I'm constantly wandering around. I've been traveling from Riften to Windhelm for hours now and I'm still not sure how to get there. I'm way off the road and totally lost, lol.

And I love it.

I, for one, LOVE getting lost! It took me longer to find the path and scale High Hrothgar than it did for me to walk across Vvardenfell.

How can ANYONE get lost in this game with the GPS compas? Just follow the compas to where you need to go.

I'll just leave it at that as anything else would get me banned.

The compass points "directly" to your quest target, but rarely is there a direct path. That's how you get lost.

It only bothers me when I follow a "path" up a mountain for ages then hit a dead end :verymad:

I agree that the map isn't overly helpful, though. I don't use it unless I'm trying to see how far away my destination is. I find it hopeless for actually navigating my way through mountains, etc.

You don't need a direct path. If you can't move around and figure out how to get somewhere when you have marked on your map than I have to question your navigation skills.

There is NO WAY to get lost in this game, unless you just purposefully go the opposite way of the GPS pointer. You have a map that you can zoom in an out of and a mark on your compass and a paper map that came with the game.

If you can't figure out where to go with those things than there is nothing anyone can do to help you find it.

It seems to me that it would be impossible to actually get lost, since the compass always points directly to your quest target, even if you have to go out of your way, you still have the ability to re-align the quest target on the compass no matter where you are, and thus can't actually get lost in the game world. Even if you have to go completely around a mountain or swamp, eventually you would re-align with the quest target on the compass and get to where you want to go.

Some people in life are prone to getting lost, and some have some sort of natural GPS in their own heads. I have to wonder if those getting lost in the game are of the former variety.

I like it. They did this kind of map on purpose, to let you discover the way to your destinations by your own. At first, I was annoyed. But now I understand this thing, and It's fun to search the ways. Skyrim as a world, is always interesting.

I had a similar problem.

The way I got to my destination close to the mountain is at one point cross a downed tree that arches over a waterfall (beautiful), that had some bandits on the tree asking to get shouted down.

To get to Riften it would be a similar path; just follow the water east of Windhelm.

I kind of agree. I love the game but the map doesn't help in the least.

That said, road signs are a massive help. I mostly stick to roads and if I wander off the path, I try my damndest to remember to backtrack.

There is a spell that shows u the best path to your current way point. The spell draws a blue line on the ground in front of your character showing the way to go.
