I switched off the visual volume display and go by ear. I don't even set a timer when I'm boiling eggs. Living dangerously, that's how I roll.

I usually have my TV's volume down fairly low, but mine doesn't have numbered volumes. Just a bar that fills up or gets less filled up. I always have things at fairly low volumes compared to most people, too. A friend of mine wondered why I had my iPod at such a low volume and I never even knew it was a low volume. My extreme hearing has, luckily, become easier to manage, though.

My TV isn't the loudest thing on Earth and I just have it be the audio speaker type that is built into the TV as far as sound goes. I don't need speakers. I do hate how loud ever movie I watch gets, though. The Lion King actually woke my mom up and freaked her out because of one of the loud parts. This was the Blu-Ray version, too. The Blu-Ray version of All Dogs Go To Heaven isn't as bad, but the volume can still get annoying in how often it shifts.

Oddly, DVDs actually have stable volumes.

I never really get annoyed by the whole volume thing since everyone else had their TVs at higher volumes than me and I had to get used to telling them to turn mine down when using it.

Pro tip: Don't look at the volume slider when they change the volume. Unless the uncertainty gnaws at you too much.

Urgh, I hate these thread titles. Just say what the thread's about and don't waste my time making me click on something that isn't interesting. No, it doesn't upset me, and I think if it bothers you, you have a form of OCD.

'5' is an arbitrary number.

When it comes to sound, what I really hate enough to wish a special circle of hell for the one who came up with it is that a sudden commercial is always twice as loud as the movie it is interrupting.

I get svckered in by misleading titles like "Patch 1.9" when (at the time) still on patch 1.8, or even more irritating: "New DLC" when it's just about them speculating on a new one in the OP. :/

I have the same issue with the PC volume control - 5, 10, etc are good, because they are multiples of 5; 2, 4, etc are good, multiples of 2; but 27? 37? I don't feel comfortable with prime numbers. I'm also the designer who must balance a layout/design perfectly down to the single pixel.

Hey look! MentalHealth.gov!

I always put mine to a multiple of 5, I don't really care what others do as long as it's not too loud/quiet.

My sister can't stand people putting it on something that isn't a multiple of 5, though, and it can be quite funny.

This is something I never thought about - I just set the volume to what I can hear or to a level that won't disturb others if it is late at night. The actual number is irrelevant.

I don't take notice of the volume setting and as my house is detached it makes no odds if the volume is too loud. :D

I always try to set it on a multiple of five. Typically I go with "ten" (out of sixty, odd TV volume design thing), which is quite low, unless my family is being really loud (which is quite often), then I go with a "fifteen" or sometimes, "twenty".

I also hate having the TV, iPod, etcetera overly loud, or at a volume that I deem too loud. Which people around me love to have very loud. Annoys the crap outta me, those inconsiderate... :swear:

You'd think that this is something that'd bother me, since I have OCD, but this is actually one of the few things I've never worried about.

No, you're not, and all of us in this thread will form The League of Nosiness!

As far as the OP goes, no, you're not the only one. I know about five hundred other people who claim this as something that makes them unique.

The OP's problem can be solved by learning non-integer multiplication.
