Am I the Only Person that Thinks Frost Trolls are Patheic?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 1:20 pm

I was about level 15 climbing High Hrothgar for the first time when I encountered my first Frost Troll. I was like "Oh crap, everyone says these things are really dangerous!"

The fight went like this.

Arrow. Arrow.

Slash, Slash, Slash.

Shield Bash.

Slash, Slash.

Dead Troll.

I don't mention the trolls attacks not because he didn't get any in, just that they were to pathetic to be worth mentioning. I play on Adept, but even if Master Multiplies enemy damage a few times over and Multiplies their HP I don't think I would have even needed to use a healing potion.

I'm now level 42 and the Frost Trolls have only gotten easier since then.

So, yeah, anybody care to explain why everyone is afraid of Frost Trolls?

Go at them at lower levels ;)

I was level 6 when I saw my first and had my buttocks handed to me by one.

I fought that one about level 5 or 6. I killed it (with Lydia's help), but he took most of my health with one or two hits.

Because a lot of us play on master and trust me, there is a difference.

I don't think they are that difficult either. I just fought and killed 3 of them at once, at close range, with archery, and none of them managed to land a blow on me.

Bottom line is that they are difficult when you are low level, but at about level 20, give or take, they become push overs.

Still doesn't explain why many people rate them as one of the most dangerous creatures in the Game. They are nothing compared, to half of the Druegr types, or giants, or a dragon (even the pathetic weak ones), or a Giant, or a Mammoth.

My experience tells me that they are exactly the same as trolls from Oblivion, which were also pathetic.

You were level 15. --__--

Most of us were level 5-6 maybe lower when we encountered our first frost troll. I am level 16 now (I think) and frost trolls are kind of easy. There is still a challenge but I just run up a flight of stairs and yell at him. He dies.

Edit~~~

I'm playing on default difficulty (Adept I believe).

Yeah it does. The game has been out for less than a week. A lot of people simply haven't gotten high enough level or discovered the most effective strategies yet, so frost trolls are still dangerous to them.

I personally agree with you. The advanced draugr types are the ones to be worried over. A frost troll can't disarm you, summon an atronach, or cast spells at you, etc.

At expert they're pretty damn difficult. Basically if you start trading hits with them you die guaranteed. But even if you get in way more hits than them, it's going to be difficult. And that's with full superior dwarven armour, superior dwarven greatsword, 55 two handed skill with all possible perks bar type specialization (hammers/axes/sword), and all possible heavy armour perks.

The only difficult fight I have had 1 on 1 was Krosis soo far. Thats a bad dude. LOL

Multiple enemies can be pretty tough on a warrior at later levels though I have found. I fought 3 druaga deathlords at the same time last night and they were nasty. It took a few tries and some of my better scrolls to finish them without using all my potions.

I think it has to do with the fact that frost trolls can be pretty much anywhere out in the wild
making it very possible to fight them at a low level
dreugr types not so much since they hide in dungeons

do agree with you though
give me a bunch of frost trolls over a dreugr deathlord any day

Yes it does. Many of the people are level 5-6 and at that level you don't run into the more advanced enemies and therefor these frost trolls are one of the most dangerous enemies in the game for them.

Would you rather have Oblivions scaling back? I encountered a troll at lvl 3. It one-shot me. When I am level 15, I can kill them, but if I stand still, it will still kill me. Isn't that the point of leveling? To make things easier to kill? Your post is stupid

They're like bears and cats, in that they're not where you're expecting to run into them necessarily and thinking of them as an 'overworld' beast you underestimate them then get your ass kicked.

Isn't it true that some are leveled, and other aren't? Perhaps the ones that people are having an easy time with are the non-leveled ones, so they're fighting a level 6 troll while their character is level 20? I ran into an ice troll at level 10 and it was a pretty difficult battle.

Yep, ran into that situation last night too. Four snow bears did me in. One bear is just a fur for smithing but multiple bears now have my respect.

I'm playing a stealth character and I'm just beginning to be able to handle them alone around level 20. I was always fine unless they could get right up in my face, but once they did I was down in two or three hits.

Play on a tougher level before you comment upon it. Some of us actually likes a challenge... -which you obviously don't get on adept.

Somehow I always see the ice trolls before they see me, so I immediately try to find higher ground, then pelt them with fire (with help of fire atronachs). Fire atronachs die quickly vs. troll, so I summon it a bit away so it can get 3-4 shots in.

I did try to help my follower in melee fighting one once, ahh, what a mistake :P

When I first found a frost troll it was at least 3x harder than most other stuff. Maybe that changes at higher levels?

I found my firt Frost Troll very challenging too at low lev. It smacked my head off in 2 hits.

So far Ive not encountered another one yet in direct combat (lev 20-21), though I did encounter some in a different way.

I saw one who was near a mountain, ... So I went all the way around him, climbed up the mountain, jumped down the cliffs untill I was near it, and started arrowing him down. Needless to say it was very mad at me, as it was not able to get near me. Apperently, though they tend to live in the mountains mostly,... it cant climb up cliffs. :teehee: ... But just before I really killed it, ... it went away out of my sight, so I could not hit it anymore. I found that to be very cowardess of the Troll. :twirl:
