Just because someone is a lawyer, a cop, a firefighter, a soldier, a pormo director, a drug dealer, etc. doesn't say anything about their ethics. Seriously, I know some guys in the military who are ethically bankrupt and are only soldiers because it is their best avenue to legally kill someone (and to be honest, I'd rather they be soldiers than try to hold that twisted [censored] in), and I know some drug dealers who are completely chill people who wouldn't want to harm anybody. The fact that people buy into the propaganda makes me sick.

It's the way it is. The general consensus is that you undertake those positions with certain morals in mind. Sure there are exceptions but usually those morals are followed in a way.

I believe this is a matter of morality, rather than ethics. Many professions have their own code of ethics, and it's possible for these to clash (on rare occasion) with culturally accepted standards of morality.

For example, it would be unethical for a lawyer to break lawyer-client confidentiality, but they may feel this is morally justified if they know divulging confidential information will prevent an innocent person from being executed. (Note, I'm hardly proficient on legal ethics.)

A drug dealer may be run their business honestly and they may be generally congenial, but the general culture consensus is their actions are immoral. Of course in other facets of life they may behave in a moral fashion.

Military, Police, Firefighters and Emergency workers for the most part are good people. Its apart of the job. They want to help people. There will always be bad apples, but it doesn't spoil the bunch.

Drug Deals, don't want to help people. There could be the rare person that wouldn't hurt a fly selling drugs, but the drugs they sell hurt people.

It would depend on who he divulged it to, and in what manner.

The tricky thing about lawyers is they can be very technical about exceptional situations like this :hehe:

The tricky thing about medical conflicts of this nature is they are often extremely contentious.

The majority of vendors don't want to help people, they want to turn a profit. And some of the drugs they sell have detrimental effects, but that is part of their use. Are doctors bad people for recommending chemo? No. Just because it has some serious side effects doesn't mean that it is "Bad". They gain some benefit out of it. Some people view those benefits to be worth the side effects.
Whether drugs are bad or not, and connected debates concerning individual choice, governmental involvement, and what not, are not appropriate for the forums. If you want to discuss why some professions are considered more moral than others that's fine - but this is not a path the discussion can take.

Drugs drug dealers sell don't have a benefits and hurt people. Most crime in cities is through drug dealers or is drug related. Doctors give you medicine and they are supposed to check you to see if you will be susceptible to side effects the medical drug may have.

A drug dealer isn't a doctor. Don't fool yourself into thinking they are good people.

Isn't s/he helping someone indirectly hurting themselves though?

Makes sense.

I don't believe either are automatically "good" or "evil". Knowing their profession, to me, doesn't provide any information about how "good" or "evil" they are.

Darn it, I wrote 550 words before it hit me that my post that was speaking my mind on several professions wouldn't be allowed on this forum. So instead I will just say that I'm not tired of people tying professions to ethics, but I don't tie the military to good and I don't tie drug dealers to evil. I have arguments to support what I'm saying but...

Drugs have the potential to hurt people, just like cars and cheeseburgers and peanuts. It's silly to compare a legal system that is highly regulated to another system that is unregulated precisely because it's illegal. Besides, we have legal drugs that claim far more lives than illegal drugs, but you don't often see campaigns looking to run the local liquor store owner out of town.

EDIT:

Sorry, missed Hungry Donner's post...

...what about discussions on cannibalism? Are those kosher? Those guys seem to get the cold shoulder plenty.

They are bad in my opinion knowing their profession and personally dealing with the outcome of their "profession."

I am assuming you are talking about one of the so called "harmless drugs." Forum rules say we can't name them but I have a feeling you know the one I am talking about. My Brother was killed in the line of duty by some dip [censored] teenager to young to drive, that was smoking that "harmless drug" and thanks to another drug drealer a cousin of mine couldn't go to the funeral because she was in rehab and she is only in her teens as well.

So your friend that may never hurt a fly is hurting people. Even if he is only selling what you think is a "Harmless Drug." Drugs kill thousands of people a year and those drugs are sold by drug dealers. Gangs are formed around the sale of drugs and people get killed by those gangs. Sooner or later if your friend catches the attention of such a gang he will be killed himself. But I am guessing hes just some kid selling from his parents basemant. But one day his luck could run out if he decides selling drugs is how he is going to support himself.

No, Leviticus implies it is unlawful.

No, not really. A large number are, but I wouldn't consider rumor or conjuncture by "good authority" to equate to truth.

No, Leviticus implies it is unlawful.

I think he was asking if it was in good taste to discuss cannibalism or whether that was as touchy of a topic as the previous.

Drug Dealers have no morals. The odd on may be a nice guy but I am sure he wouldn't mind selling to kids. People say "cars kill people, and medical drugs kill people." Well a kid/teen can't buy a car and Doctors aren't going to give them medical drugs without making sure they can handel it.

If they had morals they wouldn't sell drugs in the first place.
