The overall volume level is way too low

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 3:26 am

Hi

I'm a headphone user so to adjust volume I have to do it through Windows. The thing is normally I use 25~26% volume but with Skyrim I have to drag the volume slider up to like 38~40%! Then as I quit playing and perhaps fire up some music I might have forgotten to lower the volume level and it's like way too loud, so loud I have to instantly take off my headphones. I'd hate to have to be exposed to high volumes in the long run like this (yes I usually try to remember to lower the volume after I've quit Skyrim but it's not something I'm used to think about so hence I easily forget it) for no other reason. This is such an easy fix, you'd just have to raise the master volume to be higher than it is now at the max volume setting so hope to see this fixed in future. TBH, it's been a problem with all your previous games too Fallout, Oblivion but in Skyrim it's even a bit quieter than previously.

I'm using an Audigy 2 ZS soundcard but I doubt this is a specific hardware issue.

I just thought about this, and yes... it's low. This was mentioned as a solution in a thread: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/456554-very-low-sound/page__p__3782023#entry3782023

It doesn't help quite fully though. It's still too low...
It's a pain to change sound every time you play.

A lot of people are having the same issue. Odds are it will be fixed soon.

OK thanks for the quick replies, I tried searching but this forum is getting flooded with threads so it's hard to find what's already been discussed!! xD

This fixed it for me.

OK I actually tried raising it above 1.0 already but didn't seem to make a big difference (so I assumed it wasn't possible to raise it above 1.0), perhaps I just need to increase it much higher then, I went as far as 6.0 or so, guess I'll have to try with like 10.0 and see what happens.

As for the previous mentioned "workaround", my soundcard doesn't have "loudness equalization" as I suppose if I'm not mistaken is the feature included with Realtek onboard sound which I do have too but the audio quality is worse so don't like using that.
