The Peaks of Solstheim (Location spoilers)

Post » Mon Feb 04, 2013 10:16 am

So, being the explore the world till there's nothing left type:

Fryke Peak ( Above Saering's Watch )
Mount Moesring ( South of Moesring Pass )
Mortag Peak ( South of Castle Karstaag )
Hvitkald Peak ( West of Abandoned Lodge )

Anyone found any others?

(p.s. if you go South of bloodskal burrow along the shore, look for little markers with flags, leads to a shrine of Kynareth!)

Are these actual locations that you can fast travel to?

Sure are, I'm currently standing on top of Mount Moesring.

You can even grab a dragon and 'fly' around them.

Key point is, they wont show up on your compass until you're virtually at the summit. Use the directions given and head towards the biggest peak you can see. Then start climbing, and I hope you brought a rope (or a horse).

I've managed to get to two of them...

Anyone check the mainland to see if there were any summit locations added there?

Hmmm... a challange it seems. I'm pretty good at getting up mountains on the game, though I usually do it without a horse. I'm just... persistant I guess. I haven't thought to check out the peaks of Solstheim yet... anything of particular interest up there?

Should be on Hvitkald anyway. But that's a shame. Also Fryke peak? Is that where Frykte the ice cavern used to be?

Made it to Frykte peak. That was a climb. Going after Moesring next.

Moesring wasn't that tough.
Hvitkald was pretty easy too.

I give up on Mortag though.

I like trying to discover every location in the game. After making the climb to get these, I'm at 410 locations discovered. :)

Mortrag was one of the ones I managed to do. I found it easiest to start on the North side, if that helps. You can get quite a ways up, and there's a notch...it took a lot of jumping, repositioning, and just holding forward while moving side to side...inching basically. Once you get past the notch it was fairly easy to make it to the top.

Had to ride my undead steed onto Frykte Peek, not without my momentum taking me flying over the edge a couple times. Gotta go find the rest of these mountains!

Anyone else accomplished all four like myself? Best tip I can give is to only move @ half speed, and plan your route before you start!

On a side note, looks like they haven't put any 'new' mountaintop locations in the vanilla game, I have pretty much scaled every mountain with a peak to find out!
And alas... looks like there is only 4 peaks in Solstheim.

I've found all four; wasn't able to do it on foot but Arvak the trusty mountain goat/steed was able to take me up! Moesring was the toughest for me, dying 3 times but that was because I was going too fast and jumped over the top instead of stopping.

I've noticed if you fast travel while on Arvak to the top of the peaks it seems to give you a better view than when you fast travel on foot.

I hope they do things like this in the rest of the DLC, I actually kind of enjoyed it. And it really pleased my OCD to have my locations found end up at 410, rather than like, 406, or 403 etc.

Is there any kind of special thing about finding all of them, or just the satisfaction of finding them? :P

Just the satisfaction of being the ultimate cartographer of skyrim(+dlc locations :P)

I have no idea where to check total number of locations anymore... all I know is that I have them all. Literally.

Same here, not one place undiscovered. Though these incredibly well hidden ones make me suspicious now...

Heheh, that sounds like a really fun little feature. When it comes out on PC I'll be sure to add markers to the Skyrim peaks, assuming nobody else does it quicker.

As far as I could tell there was no bloody way of glitching your way up the top of Frykte peak on foot.
