The Perfect Mage Gear?

Post » Tue Aug 14, 2012 5:13 pm

Hey guys I need your help. I'm thinking about creating a Mage, and I need your tips! I've read a lot of stuff but some says one thing is better, other says other thing is better, and I don't know what to think.

And please people, try not to give answers like "Well, that depends on what kind of Mage you want to be.". Seriously, just tell me what you think is the best. For example: "As a Mage, should I use a weapon?" "Well, if you're a Destruction Mage, you shouldn't use it, but if you are a Restauration Mage you should. In my opinion Destruction Mage is better so you shouldn't use weapons." If you think Destruction Mage is the best, just say "Don't freakin' use freakin' weapons because they svck!". And that's all!!!

Oh, and other thing, when you answer (IF you answer), could you please put the number of the question, and then the text? Like:
"1) The best race is High Elf because it has a lot of Magicka and that will help a lot!"

NOTE: If you can't say why, don't say it, but please, try...

Here are my questions:

1) Which race is better and why?
About this, some people say it's Altmer (High Elf) because of the "Mana Pool" other say it's Brenton because of his Magic Resistance.

2) Should I use a 1 Two-Handed Weapon, 2 One-Handed Weapons, 1 One-Handed Weapon and a Shield, 1 One-Handed Weapon and 1 Spell, or 2 Spells?
This is really one of my biggest questions...

2.1) If I should use a weapon, which one, why, and where to find?
For example: You should use 1 BlaBlaBla Sword because it's good for close monsters and 1 Spell for medium distance monsters. You can craft that sword in a Forge.

2.2) If I should use a weapon, which Enchantments should it have?
Only if I should use a weapon!

3) What's the best mage armor and why??
Daedric? Dragonscale? Arch-Mage?

3.1) Which enchantments should the armor have?
Magicka Points? Regeneration? Less Cost?

4) Which is the best ring? And the best Necklace? And Why?
I don't have any idea about this two items.

4.1) Can I Enchant them? Which Enchantments?
I'm not sure if it's possible to Enchant those two.

5) What should I upgrade when I level up? Magicka, Health or Stamina? Why?
I think a lot of Magicka and some Health?

6) Which skills should I upgrade? And maybe their order (which sould I upgrade first, second, etc.)? Why?
Everybody talks about first Destruction and then Conjuration.

6.1) Inside each skill (Destruction, Conjuration, etc,) which Perks sould I upgrade and their order? Why?
I really need help about this.

7) Any tips on how to level up faster, character and skills (Smithing, Destruction, etc)?
I've read some tips about this but I'm not sure if they work.

And basically that's it.
Thank's a lot for helping,
Neon.

If you want to be a "pure" mage wear a robe and carry a staff. Your weapons are spells. I've started a mage on Master difficulty. At level 13 his conjuration is around 60 with destruction approaching 40 and alteration somewhere close to destruction. But play your mage however you want to. Have fun.

I haven't touched any of the crafting skills. I chose 1 health "upgrade" per 5 levels, the rest in magika.

Wear items that decrease casting costs to the spells you want to use and whatever else you fell you need.

Does anyone else find it odd that the mage tree gets enchanting and mages primarily wear robes yet most robes you can't even enchant?
