the point of saving perks?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 8:45 am

So you can choose to not use and save perk points when you level up. I'm not reallly following the point of saving them though to be honest. If you have two points to use the next time, isn't it exactly the same as using it the first time? I suppose the only point i can see is that if your skill is currently too low and you want to save the perk for when you meet the requirement to use it ? Yes?

Its primarialy good for when you don't meet the pre-reqs for a particular perk.

Also, some people like having a "floating pool" of perks, so that at the first sign of having trouble, they can go ahead and put perks into whatever skill should solve the problem.

Right if you're not yet where you want to be in skill points you shouldn't 'waste' the perk on something you can afford (but don't necessarily need/want).

I was hoping you wouldn't have to "climb the tree" to unlock perks, too. But alas...

You touched on one of the reasons. When my rogue hit level 6, his sneak was 34. I wanted to buy two perks that required sneak 40. So I saved. When I hit level 7 my sneak was 39. I saved another one. Then I just snuck up on a zombie, sneak hit 40, and I spent both on the perks I wanted. If I spent them on something else rather than saving, I would have to wait until level 9.

Another reason to save them is when you just cant decide.

There is nothing I want to spend my perks on, until I level certain skills up.

You answer your own question.
That is exactly why.
And you don't need to wait to level up again to use the 2 perks, you can apply a perk whenever you'd like.
If you HAD to apply a perk when you leveled up, it would be an awfully bad leveling system.

I currently have 3 points saved up! I want to put 1 in lockpicking, 1 in stealth, and 1 in pickpocketing, but I don't yet have the required level in those skills - but I'm very close in each skill so I'm saving those points for when I can spend them on the next perks in those trees.

so another quick question. In the perk tree, the bottom of say, archery says 0/5. You don't have to max that out at 5 before climbing up the tree then?

Many perks have a skill requirement. If you want the perk that requires 50 destruction but you only have 45 when you level, you can save the perk point until you get 50 destruction. :)

Here's a situation where it may be used. Since it's my situation:

My Heavy Armor is 49, just shy of 50. I just leveled up and now have 1 perk available. Well, I'm going up both sides of the Heavy Armor tree so I can get Conditioning. So I saved that one perk until I hit 50 in Heavy Armor with another level up. I can now fill both sides of the 50 skill requirement in Heavy Armor.

Usually you save perks because your only a few skill levels away from the next tier. At least that's they way I see it.
