So, reading http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1443236-enchanting-and-soul-trap-is-evil/ particular thread, and posts within it, got me to wondering on something. How exactly is a Soul Gem used? What I mean is, with the representation of the Soul Cairn, it's obvious the soul isn't in two places at once (I dont think so anyway), but is it the 'fuel' of the soul that powers the enchantments of blades and armour?

Interesting. Another question, when you recharge it with another soul gem, are you replacing the original soul, or are you like feeding it another soul?
I don't have DLC's nor am I an expert in lore, so if there is an answer for this already, I apologize.

I don't have any of the DLC either (I do want Hearthfire though), but I read UESP, so I just read and understand what I find there. But I find the knowledge of Soul Gem use a bit of a grey area. I guess if you use soul gems to recharge it, it is powered by what, in simple terms is 'soul petrol' in a sense. Once the magicka of the fuel runs low, you need more, or it functions as a normal weapon until recharge. (I'm not a lore master either so we're in the same boat. )

Seems you take the power of a soul and enchant the blade, damning the soul in question to the soul cairne. It's a shame that none of the named NPCs you soul trap end up there; I'd love to go see Tullius.

Yeah, I want HF as well. As for the topic, I'm not entirely sure what to think. Hopefully there is someone who is good with lore to give some insight.

As I mentioned in that other thread, I liked to imagine their souls being trapped in the gem, staring with bitter hate at you for cursing them into the gem. Sending to the Soul Cairn derives me of that pleasure. :c
